What are Ryder Cup Foursomes?
In foursomes, two players form a team but only play one ball between them. They take alternate shots: one partner tees off on odd-numbered holes, the other on even-numbered holes, and then they alternate until the hole is completed. Strategy is important because players have to decide who is better suited to drive or approach particular holes.
Each hole in the Ryder Cup is worth one point, and each time a team wins a hole they go '1 up'. This continues until throughout the round, and the winning team at the end of each round will win one point to the Ryder Cup tally that contributes to the end result of the competition.
What are Ryder Cup Fourballs?
In fourballs, two players form a team, but unlike foursomes, each golfer plays their own ball throughout the hole. That means there are four balls in play at once (two per team). On each hole, the team’s score is the lowest score made by either player. For example, if Europe makes a par and USA makes a birdie, the team records a birdie for that hole.
Scoring follows standard match play rules. The team with the lower score on a hole goes “1 up.” If both sides tie, the hole is halved. Matches last 18 holes, and if the teams are level, the result is a half-point each in the competition tally.
Fourballs allow aggressive play, since one partner can take risks knowing the other’s steadier score might still count. This mix of safety and boldness often leads to exciting momentum swings, making it one of the Ryder Cup’s most entertaining formats.
Ryder Cup Betting
The Ryder Cup offers different ways to get involved, and one of the biggest changes to a regular golf event is betting on sessions, either a team to win a session, or on individual games, something that’s not available normally.
- Outright Winner - Want to keep things nice and simple? Simply choose the team you think will win the Ryder Cup this year!
- Correct Score - Golf is a sport that often allows you to bet a bigger odds, if you want that here then a correct score bet is the way to do it. Not only are you choosing the winner, but also the winning scoreline, tough but rewarded with big odds.
- Foursomes/Fourball Winner - Games on the opening two days are split into fourballs and foursomes. These individual games are available for those wanting to bet on something specific, so check out the matchups, look at who is taking each other on, and pick your winner.
- Session Winner - On the opening two days, there are two sessions of four games, while the final day sees one session of 12 games. All five sessions can be used for betting, choosing which team wins that particular session, and for bigger odds you can also add in a correct score prediction to your session betting too.
- Top Points Scorer - Players win points for their team throughout the weekend and if you want to bet on a particular player to do well, you can back them to accumulate the most points. This can be for their own team, or overall, and is a great way to support one particular player to have a strong weekend.
