The ground at Worcester was good to soft at the last meeting, and they are expecting somewhere between 5-10mm of rain overnight.

Conditions are unlikely to suit summer jumpers, but it promises to be an informative card.

The 1:35pm is worth the admission fee alone, and all six hold realistic claims.

1:05pm Worcester - Snipe (Nap)

Badbury Rings is returning from a 587-day absence for Neil Mulholland, but he has the size and scope to jump a fence and will relish the forecast rain. The stable could be in better form, however, although I will be looking closely at the run given Bel Ombre, who runs in the next race, is a novice handicap chaser who I hope will be worth following this term, although not perhaps today.

Awaythelad has not yet won following a previous absence but has run well fresh in the past, and Ben Pauling is likely to have the nine-year-old fit to do himself justice returning from a 266-day break. The nine-year-old runs from the same mark as when scoring at Southwell last March - his sole chase success – but it is perhaps significant that he does not have blinkers he wore at Southwell applied this afternoon.

SNIPE (Nap) goes on all ground, and I thought he ran an excellent race when second at Warwick last time to Fever Dream over an additional couple of furlongs. A sound jumper, the nine-year-old is high enough in the handicap, but that sentiment, arguably, applies to his five rivals save the chase debutant, Badbury Rings. If the market speaks positively for the latter, then I will save on the bottom-weight but, without that information, Snipe looks sure to run his race for Dan and Harry Skelton.

Recommendation: Snipe (Nap) - 5/2 with bet365

This is Charlie's Nap of the Day selection - see how it stacks up against Alan Kelly's pick too.

3:29pm Nottingham - Dark Whisper (Each-Way)

The classic generation have won the last three renewals of the extended mile handicap, and I hope they get every drop at Colwick Park of the 5-8mm of rain they were expecting to hit the track on Wednesday morning which, hopefully, will ease the ground towards good to soft.

The vote goes to the David Menuisier-trained DARK WHISPER (Each-Way), who has been taken out of a couple of engagements in recent weeks on good ground and needs a bit of cut to be seen at his best. It is well documented that the yard have had their issues this term, and this inmate is hardly thrown in from a mark of eighty-five if you go back to his third over course and distance in a Maiden at the end of May.

That said, he was well on top when scoring at Ffos Las the following month, and the combination of fast ground and a 10f trip was never going to suit at Goodwood when last seen at the Glorious Meeting.

The grey son of Dark Angel is drawn out wide in stall nine, but that should not be an issue if the rain arrives. Saffie Osborne takes the ride.

Recommendation: Dark Whisper (Each-Way) - 12/1 with bet365 (3 places)

2:20pm Sedgefield - Just Keeps Rolling

Flashy Boy looks the one to beat in the 3m2f handicap chase wearing cheekpieces for the first time, but I am going to take a chance on what is likely to be the outsider of the four-runner field in JUST KEEPS ROLLING, who jumped and travelled well for a long way at Market Rasen on chase debut.

Phil Kirby has not saddled a win over jumps for over five months and is not exactly banging in the winners on the flat, but he has had a couple of seconds in the last week, and he has the cheekpieces back on this afternoon.

The selection has been sent off 125/1, 400/1 and 25/1 in his three starts under rules, but connections have fallen upon a very ordinary race, and he is entitled to come on for that run at Market Rasen. This is a weaker race and, if the forecast rain arrives, it might not take too much winning.

Henry Box Brown is proven on soft ground but has stamina to prove, although the yard had a good winner - well supported - at Stratford on Wednesday. He is considered the chief threat, but I'm prepared to take a chance on Keeps Rolling building on his first chase start.

Recommendation: Just Keeps Rolling - 12/1 with bet365
