Ballon d'Or Odds: Kane Favourite as Mbappe Gamble Shakes Up the Betting

The 2026 Ballon d'Or will be presented at the London Palladium on Monday 26 October, with the ceremony starting at 8pm GMT.
Harry Kane remains the odds-on favourite, but the market has shifted sharply over the weekend.
Kylian Mbappé has been the biggest mover, shortening from 14/1 earlier in the week to 2/1 with bet365 and moving ahead of Lamine Yamal as Kane's nearest challenger.
Yamal was odds-on at the start of October but has drifted throughout the month.
Below, we look at the top four contenders in the market, their latest odds and the case for each.

Ballon d'Or Odds 2026: The Top Four
The award is decided by a panel of 100 journalists from around the world, who rank a 30-player shortlist, with voting closing on 28 September.
The assessment period ran from 3 August 2025 to 19 July 2026, meaning performances at the World Cup are included.
Harry Kane
Harry Kane has been the favourite since mid-October, with his odds-on status backed up by an outstanding goalscoring record.
He scored 73 goals in 65 appearances for Bayern Munich and England between the start of last season and the end of the World Cup, including six at the tournament.
Bayern won the Bundesliga title comfortably, but Kane's case is tempered by a lack of silverware on the biggest stages, with his club falling in the Champions League semi-finals and England exiting the World Cup at the same stage.
If he wins, Kane would become the fifth Englishman to win the award, following Stanley Matthews, Bobby Charlton, Kevin Keegan, and Michael Owen, who last claimed it in 2001.
Kylian Mbappe
Kylian Mbappe has been the biggest mover in the market, with his odds slashed from 14/1 to 2/1 in a matter of days.
Data shows he has attracted almost as many bets as Harry Kane over the past seven days.
His individual record is impressive - Mbappe finished as top scorer in both La Liga and the Champions League last season, then scored 10 goals at the World Cup, becoming the first player to win the Golden Boot at two tournaments.
France finished fourth, however, and the lack of major team honours remains a potential weakness in his case.
However, Mbappe won no major trophies with Real Madrid or France in 2025-26, while the award has traditionally favoured players who succeeded with their teams.
Cristiano Ronaldo provides a notable exception, having won the Ballon d'Or in 2013 without a major trophy that year.
Lamine Yamal
On silverware alone, Lamine Yamal has a strong case, having won La Liga with Barcelona and the World Cup with Spain.
The 19-year-old finished runner-up to Ousmane Dembélé in last year’s vote and scored 24 goals in 45 appearances for Barcelona last season.
However, his odds have drifted after scoring just once at the World Cup, where Spain teammate Rodri won Player of the Tournament.
Yamal was odds-on at the start of October but is now 9/2, potentially offering value for those who want to back a player who helped Spain lift the World Cup.
Lionel Messi
Bookmakers view the award as a three-horse race, with Lionel Messi next in the market at 40/1 at age 39.
The record eight-time winner helped Argentina reach the World Cup final before losing to Spain, scoring eight goals and providing four assists in eight matches, but support has cooled since the shortlist was announced, even though he was as short as 4/1 after that run.
According to data, Messi attracted just 3% of bets over the past week.
When Is the Ballon d'Or Ceremony?
The ceremony takes place at the London Palladium on Monday 26 October, starting at 8pm GMT, and will be streamed on DAZN.
It is the first time the event has been held in London, in tribute to Stanley Matthews, who won the inaugural award in 1956.
