British Runners at the Breeders' Cup: Five Best UK & Irish Challengers
Craig Jones
It's Breeders' Cup weekend and there's plenty of UK and Irish interest across the two days at Del Mar.
Here we look at the British runners at the Breeders' Cup, plus a heads up about what UK betting sites think to their chances, with latest odds where possible.
British Runners at the Breeders' Cup
The Breeders' Cup is the one time in racing when the world focuses on the USA, and here at Free Bets, we can't wait!
But where are the best chances for British runners at the Breeders' Cup? Here's a run down.
Friday 9:45pm - Juvenile Turf Sprint
The 9:45pm on Friday night sees the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint take place, and this looks as though it'll be where the first British winner will be found.
At the time of writing, British horses account for five of the six leading contenders in the betting, including the market leading True Love.
Aidan O'Brien's hope won the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes last time out, and if the drop back down to 5f doesn't inconvenience her, she looks to hold a massive chance.
Military Code (Charlie Appleby), Havana Anna (Donnacha O'Brien) plus Brussels and Mission Central (Both Aidan O'Brien) are the other leading UK runners in the race.
Friday 11:05pm - Juvenile Fillies Turf Sprint
Another juvenile sprint and another race where Aidan O'Brien is bidding to give us a UK and Irish winner at the Breeders' Cup.
Precise won the Fillies' Mile at Newmarket last time out, that victory put her firmly at the top of the betting for next years 1000 Guineas, and she certainly looks special.
She's a strong favourite, despite a tough draw, and that shows the quality she possesses, in terms of UK & Irish bankers, she could be the one.
At bigger odds, Queen Of Hawaii (Joseph O'Brien) and Pacific Mission (Andrew Balding) are a couple more of the British challengers.
Saturday 12:25am - Juvenile Turf
At this point, it's fine to just assume that Aidan O'Brien is the man in charge of British challengers, and there's no change with Gstaad.
Perhaps not you're typical runner though, he's actually failed to win any of his last three, finishing second in them all, despite that he's a strong favourite to win this.
Ardisia (Huge Palmer) is another British chance, who has each way claims in this.
Saturday 9:41pm - Breeders' Cup Turf
The Breeders' Cup Turf is one of the main races for British runners at the Breeders' Cup and this year is no different.
Minnie Hauk, yes, Aidan O'Brien, leads the market, and if O'Brien has a winner or two before this, expect her to be odds on in her bid to land another big one.
Rebel's Romance, Amiloc and Wimbledon Hawkeye are other British challengers, while Goliath from France means that Europe completely dominates the betting for this race.
Finally, a mention for Ethical Diamond, trained by national hunt maestro Willie Mullins, he couldn't, could he?
Saturday 11:05pm - Breeders' Cup Mile
Another race where we have the favourite, but this time not trained by Aiden O'Brien, as it's Charlie Appleby's Notable Speech that leads the latest betting.
He almost won this last year, and is back for more in what looks another competitive heat.
There's plenty more British interest, including The Lion In Winter, Qirat and Jonquil amongst others.
The Breeders' Cup on Free Bets
For both days at the Breeders' Cup, we'll have horse racing tips on site covering every race, with tips released during the day as we build up to the evening.
Then, our two resident experts could have more. We've got Charlie McCann tips coming for the weekend, and I've no doubt he will be looking at Del Mar and picking a runner of two to watch.
Next up, we'll also have Alan Kelly tips for Friday and Saturday, with the possibility of US picks alongside his UK runners.
