Grand Slam of Darts Tips: Day 2 Sunday Best Bets & Predictions
Lewis Watson
Day 1 at the Grand Slam of Darts is in the books, and itโs make or break for certain players already on Sunday as they attempt to break out of their respective groups.
James Wade, Gerwyn Price, Jonny Clayton and Josh Rock were just some of the names that were handed surprise defeats on Saturday โ will Sunday serve up the same carnage?
Letโs take a look at some of the best betting tips and free bets for Day 2 of the Grand Slam of Darts.
Grand Slam of Darts Tips: Day 2
Read on to see our best darts betting tips for Day 2 of the Grand Slam of Darts in Wolverhampton
Tip 1: Gian van Veen to beat Wessel Nijman
European Championship winner Gian van Veen averaged 12 points better than Lisa Ashton in Saturdayโs Group F opener, but only managed to sneak the victory thanks to a 5-4 scoreline.
This can happen in such a short sprint to the finish, and the youngster will know heโll have to up that average into the 100s if he is going to glide past the talented Wessel Nijman.
Both of these men are tipped to be future world champions, so Sundayโs group game may offer a rare glimpse into the future of one of the sportโs next rivalries.
But van Veen has the muscle memory for winning at the moment and if he can edge past Nijman thatโll take the pressure off his final game of the group stage.
Tip 2: Ricky Evans match win & most 180s vs Stefan Bellmont
Ricky Evans served up one of the shocks of the opening round of fixtures, squeaking past three-time Grand Slam of Darts champion Gerwyn Price thanks to a 5-4 win.
But โRapidโ Rickyโs work isnโt done yet if he is to advance from the group stages for the first time in his career.
Evans faces a man that also served up a Group D surprise, Stefan Bellmont who won 5-4 over James Wade courtesy of a 93 average.
Evans is still pretty rough around the edges but his style of playing lends himself to being pretty successful over short format matches โ especially if his 180s are flowing.
Bellmont may have already hit his ceiling for the tournament but we think Evans has plenty more to give, and could well be on the verge of a long-awaited deep run at a major.
Tip 3: Damon Heta to beat Chris Dobey
Australian Damon Heta has been playing well enough this season to warrant jumping on an outright match win price of 11/10.
The โHeatโ is number 12 in the world and after dispatching of Martin Lukeman 5-1 on Saturday brings plenty of positive momentum back to the Wolverhampton venue on Sunday.
Chris Dobey is up next for Heta โ a former quarter-finalist here โ and despite averaging 95 in his own 5-1 win over Jurjen van der Velde, this clash with Heta is a pure toss-up.
Dobby has lost seven of his eight meetings with Heta and has even cited him as his โleast favourite player to play on tourโ.
