Grand Slam of Darts Tips: Quarter Finals - Friday Best Bets Day 7
Lewis Watson
Friday night at the Grand Slam of Darts means only one thing: it’s quarter-final time.
And with a stellar line-up of British dartists set to take to the oche, we’ve got the perfect weekend warm-up in Wolverhampton.
Three former world champions, Luke Humphries, Michael Smith and Gerwyn Price, join one of the most popular players in the sport, “Rapid” Ricky Evans in two must-see races to 16 legs.
Let’s take a look at some of the best betting tips for day seven of the Grand Slam of Darts:
Grand Slam of Darts Tips: Quarter Finals Day 7
There are two games taking place on Friday night, and we've got two darts betting tips to give an interest in both matches.
Tip 1: Match result: Gerwyn Price, Gerwyn Price: Over 7.5 180s, Highest Checkout: Gerwyn Price, Over 25.5 legs — Bet Builder at 13/4 with bet365
Ricky Evans is good fun, but can he slug it out over long, hard rounds with Gerwyn Price?
“Rapid” Ricky has definitely shown flashes this week, but in Price he comes up against a three-time winner of this tournament who is in dazzling form.
Price was in control throughout his 10-6 win over Martin Schindler, averaging 97 and reaching his seventh major quarter-final of the season.
Price has 15 wins in 21 meetings against Evans, and it’s hard to see the unpredictable underdog keeping consistent enough over a potential 31 legs to beat Price, but he could definitely stay within range if he is able to piece together purple patches.
We’re looking to land a 4-legged Bet Builder here: Match result: Gerwyn Price, Gerwyn Price: Over 7.5 180s, Highest Checkout: Gerwyn Price, Over 25.5 legs.
Tip 2: Luke Humphries - 7.5 handicap vs Michael Smith at 11/8 with bet365
Despite being back on the big stage and into a major quarter-final, we’re still not convinced that Michael Smith is truly back to anywhere close to his best form.
“Bully Boy” has had a torrid time with injuries and form over the past 18 months, and has been noticeably emotional throughout this tournament as he continues to battle with his darting demons.
Smith showed balls in navigating a route past Chris Dobey via a 10-9 victory in the second round, but with a 88-point three-dart average will have to be way more clinical to push Luke Humphries into dangerous waters.
Humphries, the top seed in Wolverhampton, smashed his way past Jurjen van der Velde dropping just three legs and averaging 109 — “Cool Hand” will take some stopping in a race to 16, and in a round that he is yet to lose at (winning one Grand Slam title and reaching one semi-final).
If Smith is to cling onto Humphries' coattails in this one, then he is going to have to start extremely fast. And considering his aggregate score for the Grand Slam so far this year is 25-9, it’s hard to imagine.
