Kai Watson's Scottish Football Tips
Kai is back with his latest free Scottish football tips ahead of another action-packed weekend north of the border – and this time, he's lined up a 27/1 acca for fans to sink their teeth into.
24th October - Hamilton vs Queen of the South
- Hamilton to win - 4/9
Hamilton are in turmoil off the pitch and look set for another points deduction after being deducted points last season. The point deduction takes them down to sixth place after being joint top with Stenhousemuir.
On the pitch they’re in incredible form though and have won their last four. That includes victories against both Stenhousemuir and Inverness, beating them 2-0 and 3-1 respectively. Considering after winning their first two games they didn’t win in four and the pressure was mounting again on John Rankin, it’s been a brilliant turnaround.
The point deduction will make them even more determined to get back to the top and with Queen of the South only winning one in their five, I think they’ll struggle. The Doonhamers were hammered 3-0 against Peterhead last time out which leaves them seventh in the table after they had started really well, I don’t see their fortunes changing on Friday night.
25th October - Falkirk vs Dundee
- Both teams to score - Yes - 4/5
Falkirk were absolutely terrible in the first half against Motherwell at Fir Park last week and looked every bit a Championship side. John McGlynn’s words at half-time worked miracles though and they came out in the second half and were the better team.
Defensively they held their shape much better and actually looked threatening going forward, particularly via the wide areas. Calvin Miller and Kyrell Wilson are big threats out wide and they have Ethan Ross to come back into the mix also. Having a hard working striker like Ross MacIver that will constantly put pressure on a backline makes a big difference and will always try and force defenders into mistakes.
Dundee potentially had the performance of the previous match day when they deservedly beat champions Celtic 2-0 at Dens Park. They stopped Celtic doing what they wanted, ran themselves into the ground and showed some moments of quality going forward.
Ethan Hamilton was impressive in the midfield, Luke Graham impressed at the back against the club he shone for on loan last season but the biggest stand out, for me, was Cameron Congreve. The Welsh winger, who’s on loan from Swansea, was so dangerous driving forward and created both goals, although he won’t get the assist he deserves for the own goal.
Both teams should be high on confidence after two different but impressive wins, I can see there being goals in this one.
25th October - Airdrie vs Arbroath
- Arbroath to win - 13/10 - Midnite
I actually can’t believe the odds on this one (which means I’m now going to jinx it, sorry Arbroath fans) but I don’t see any way in which Airdrie get a positive result here. Danny Lennon was just sacked after eight games in charge in which he lost six and drew two. They currently sit bottom of the Scottish Championship and have failed to win in eleven games.
They’ve conceded more goals than anyone else in the league (Arbroath are actually second on that list which is surprising given that they sit in third place) and they’ve only scored eight goals all season whilst failing to score in the previous two.
Arbroath on the other hand started off really well, apart from a 5-0 hammering against Dunfermline, but then had a dip when they drew with Morton, lost 3-0 to Raith and drew with Partick (although that last draw looks a great result given how good Mark Wilson’s side have been).
In their last two though they hammered struggling Queen’s Park 4-1 but then pulled off an excellent win at home to current league leaders St. Johnstone, coming back from going a goal down in the first five minutes to win 3-1.
On loan Aberdeen midfielder Findlay Marshall has been incredibly impressive for them and his two goals last weekend took him to six for the season already. In case you couldn’t tell, I fancy Arbroath massively in this one.
25th October - Raith Rovers vs Patrick Thistle
- Patrick Thistle to win - 9/5
Partick are unbeaten domestically since losing to St. Johnstone 5-1 on the first day of the season, despite how early that was it seemed to give them the proverbial kick up the backside. After a disappointing draw against Morton, they beat Ross County 1-0 last week and had the chance to go joint top midweek against Ayr.
They went in 1-0 down at half-time but came out flying in the second half and two early goals from Letsosa and Stanway had turned the game around by the 50th minute. They have shown the resilience that makes champions recently and I don’t think many predicted they would be doing this well in Wilson’s first season in charge.
Raith have lost all three games in October so far which has led them to slip down to sixth after a good start to the season. All three losses have been 2-0 to Ross County, Ayr United and Dunfermline respectively so they’ve not only lost all their October matches, they haven’t even scored in one yet!
I’d be surprised if Partick didn’t continue their impressive form on Saturday.
25th October - Peterhead vs Inverness
- Both teams to score - Yes - 8/11
A couple of weeks ago this would have been billed as an easy win for Inverness but they lost to Hamilton then drew with Kelty Hearts whereas Peterhead have won their last three matches. Before that Jordon Brown’s side had only won two in seven but they’ve now climbed up to joint fourth, just four points behind joint league leaders Hamilton and Stenhousemuir.
Peterhead have scored seven goals in the last three games and have only conceded two as their season looks to have turned around. They initially struggled with the step up, as did their best performers from last season but now Kieran Shanks has five goals and two assists and Max Barry has three goals with one assist.
Peterhead are in brilliant form and Inverness will be looking to get back on form so they can keep pressure on the top two. There have been 35 goals in the ten games Peterhead have been involved in so far this season, the most of any club in the league, so I’m predicting goals in this one.
