Valero Texas Open Betting Tips, Predictions & Odds

With The Masters only a week away, the Valero Texas Open offers one final chance to tune up and, for some, secure a late invitation to Augusta.
TPC San Antonio's Oaks Course is a demanding par 72 that places far more emphasis on ball-striking than brute force. Although there are four par fives and a drivable par four, the exposed layout, awkward angles, and often gusty Texas breeze make it one of the tougher scoring tests on the schedule.
Recent winners such as Corey Conners, Akshay Bhatia and Brian Harman all arrived with their iron play in excellent shape, and that is usually the clearest route to success here. Finding players peaking from tee to green is the key again this week, especially if the forecast brings another awkward week of wind and rain.
Free Bets golf expert Ben Smith is here with his golf tips ahead of this week's action in San Antonio.

Check out our golf betting tips for the Valero Texas Open below.
Tip 1: Winner - Marco Penge (Each-Way)
Marco Penge's season has largely been held back by his approach play. When he finally put together a tidy week with the irons at Copperhead, everything clicked into place and he turned it into an impressive tied-fourth finish.
He could not repeat that at Memorial Park, but there were still reasons for encouragement after a solid opening round.
The missed cut has pushed his odds out to a price I can’t ignore in this field. With his driving remaining one of the most reliable parts of his game and the putter also behaving, this feels a good opportunity for him to bounce back.
Tip 2: Winner - Mac Meissner (Each-Way)
Mac Meissner has already shown he can handle TPC San Antonio, finishing tied 10th here in 2024 despite losing strokes on the greens. Frustratingly, when he returned last year and gained more than five strokes with the putter, the rest of his game failed to keep pace.
The hope this time is that he can put both sides together. There have been enough positive flashes across the bag to suggest that is possible. He was solid in Houston, finishing tied 28th despite never really finding anything with the putter, while his best result of the season in Phoenix came when the flat stick carried him.
Back at his home event, motivation should be high and he looks capable of giving a far better account of himself than these odds imply.
Tip 3: Winner - Billy Horschel (Each-Way)
Billy Horschel arrives under the radar, but there are reasons to think this could be one of his better weeks for some time. He is still building back after hip surgery, yet his recent performances have hinted that his game is not far away.
A top-15 finish at Bay Hill showed he can still compete when the long game clicks, and there have been further signs since that his iron play is moving in the right direction.
Houston ended with an early exit, though that venue was never an obvious fit and he still produced some respectable approach numbers.
TPC San Antonio should suit him far better. He has finished inside the top five here three times and has often thrived when this event becomes a demanding ball-striking test. If this turns into a difficult week in the wind, he could easily outrun a triple-figure price.
Tip 4: Winner - Karl Vilips (Each-Way) (5 places)
Finally, we'll give Karl Vilips a chance off the back of two really solid outings.
At Copperhead, he delivered his sharpest week with the irons since January. It got even better in Houston, where he gained 6.4 strokes on approach, numbers we had not seen from him before.
That alone is enough to pique my interest at 200/1.
