Hibs vs Aberdeen - Both teams to score
Hibs are on the look out for a new manager after David Gray’s departure on Thursday. As much as he is a legend at the club, it felt like his time was up with fans not only being unhappy about the results but also the same old, ineffective tactics week in, week out. Games like this are tough to call because with a new manager on the horizon it’s a chance for a lot of the players to put themselves forward to be starters.
If ever there was a game to impress, it would be this one!
Aberdeen are just off the back of one of their most impressive, and surprising, results in recent years having hammered Motherwell 4-0 at Fir Park on Tuesday evening. They sat off Motherwell, picked off passes at the right time and countered really effectively but this will be a completely different game. That victory was a Stephen Robinson masterclass and the type of game that his teams normally thrive in.
Who knows how this Hibs team will set up and who will play but one thing is for sure, the fans will be right behind the players, especially if they can give them something to cheer for!
With the pressure of a new manager coming in and Aberdeen off the back of two victories, I can see this being a tight but potentially exciting encounter.
St Johnstone vs Falkirk - Both teams to score
St. Johnstone currently sit in seventh having won two and drawn one of six matches so far, a start fans would probably have snapped your arm off for!
They look good going forward with Josh Fowler being a stand out and only lost 1-0 to Celtic last time out whilst creating some good chances.
After a slow start, Falkirk were unlucky in the 2-1 home defeat against Rangers then followed that up with a draw at Dundee United before beating Hearts 2-1 at home midweek. That victory was coming as their performances started to improve with all the new players settling in.
It feels the same as it did last season with Falkirk, a lot of turnover in the squad then a slow start in terms of results before that and the performances improved.
Should be a good game this, particularly at McDiarmid Park!
St Mirren vs Dundee United - St Mirren to win
St. Mirren are one of the best teams to watch in the Premiership this season with them being reminiscent of last season's Motherwell. They have been unlucky that their last two matches have been against Rangers and Celtic but only lost by one goal each time, 1-0 and 2-1 respectively.
Teams no longer go into games against St. Mirren dreading defending the long ball and physical strikers but now they go into these matches knowing they will be pressed and passed around if they don’t set up well enough defensively.
Dundee United are really struggling after being impressive on the opening day vs Rangers at Tannadice. Aside from hammering bottom placed Killie 4-0, it’s been really bleak with losing the derby 2-0 and then 3-0 against Motherwell in recent weeks. Outside that victory against Kilmarnock, they have only scored two goals in five games whilst conceding eleven.
Jim Goodwin had been trying to change the style to something a bit more expansive whilst playing out from the back but apart from that opening day performance and one performance against Killie, they have been terrible.
With how St. Mirren are playing, it’s not a great time to play them, especially away from home and I think Craig McLeish and his side will be looking forward to this one.
Morton vs Dunfermline - Dunfermline to win
Morton are in massive trouble off of the pitch but are also in trouble on it. Six games into the Championship season and they are still looking for their first win having drawn once and lost five times.
Despite the financial issues, they did manage to sign Zach Robinson this week following his release from Motherwell, which could be a brilliant signing at this level.
Dunfermline have been disappointing so far this season, in terms of results, but they have been performing well and creating plenty of chances. They have a really exciting team on paper and Neil Lennon will definitely be hoping they can push up the table before the international break.
They are unbeaten in the last three, winning twice and drawing once whilst only conceding one goal. Even at Cappielow, this should be an easy victory for Dunfermline who seem to be due a high-scoring match.
Alloa vs East Kilbride - Over 2.5 goals
This one could be a cracking game, as most seem to be with East Kilbride! They had started the season very well, were scoring goals for fun and were getting praise from all over Scotland.
However, they got a reality check when Montrose, who hadn’t won a game, hammered them 3-0 away from home, which sparked a four game win run for Montrose! That was followed by a 4-0 hammering against Ross County then a tight 1-0 defeat against Hamilton.
After a bright start, they lost three in a row, conceding eight goals and not scoring any. Last week they turned it around though and beat Peterhead 3-1 thanks to a Cammy Elliott hat-trick which Mick Kennedy will hope gets them back on track.
Alloa have had a stop-start beginning to the season but they have been another side that is good to watch with plenty of eyes being on them thanks to Rangers loanee Kyle Glasgow. The 16-year-old has been called up to the Scotland U21 squad thanks to his two goals and one assist in seven so far this season.
They look good defensively and I think they will start scoring goals once it clicks in the final third, I can see goals galore in this one!
