On Friday night, the World Cup holders, Argentina, will take to the pitch and will be looking to win their first knockout game this year as they take on Cape Verde.
Argentina couldn’t have asked for a better group stage as they won all three of their games comfortably. Cape Verde also had a great group stage by their standards, and this is their first-ever World Cup knockout match.
Here are our three football betting tips and the best free bet offers ahead of Friday night’s clash at the Hard Rock Stadium.
Argentina vs Cape Verde Tips
Here are our top three World Cup betting tips and the best free bets ahead of this game.
Tip 1: Argentina to win
Argentina had a great group stage and will be looking to kick on here with a game that they should win easily. They had a 3-0 win against Algeria, a 2-0 win against Austria and then a 3-1 win against Jordan.
Although it feels like this team is being held up by Lionel Messi, that isn’t completely the case. Conceding only one goal in the group stage is impressive, and the Argentine midfield is good both going forward and defending.Â
Now they must face a Cape Verde side who pulled a massive shock to make it through to the knockout stages. Three draws against Spain, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay were enough to see them finish second in their group.
To get a point from Spain and Uruguay shows that Cape Verde is a tough team to beat, and they can defend for their lives. Only scoring twice in three games is a concern, though, and this could be one step too far.
Expect Argentina’s class to show and for them to win comfortably, but for Cape Verde to keep the score respectable.
Tip 2: Sidny Cabral to be shown a card
Sidny Cabral to be shown a card feels like a good bet considering he usually seems to make a mistake or two in every game. He played against Spain and Uruguay in the group stages and got a yellow card in both games.
That meant that Cabral was suspended for the Saudi Arabia game, but he is available to play in this game. He also started three games for Benfica last season and picked up a card and, he got another one in a friendly for Cape Verde earlier this year.
Expect him to make another mistake against this strong Argentinian attack.
Tip 3: Kevin Pina 1+ shot on target, Lionel Messi to score anytime, Sidny Cabral to be shown a card
Kevin Pina was a good attacking outlet for Cape Verde in all three of Cape Verde’s group games. He has had four shots, with one of them hitting the target. He also got a goal against Uruguay and should get some shots away in this game.
Lionel Messi is still an amazing player, even though he is getting towards the end of his career. He scored 12 goals for Inter Miami last season, and he has already scored six goals in this World Cup.
Finally, add Sidny Cabral to be shown a card. With Argentina’s attack being as strong as it is, it will be unlikely that Cabral won't make a mistake or two.
