On Wednesday night we have got an exciting matchup to look forward to as Belgium take on Senegal for the right to be in the last 16.
Belgium ended up topping their group despite a slow start, finishing with just five points in group G. Senegal also had a slow start to their World Cup campaign but they managed to qualify third in group I with just three points.

Tip 1: Draw & both teams to score
Belgium had a tough start to their World Cup campaign and only managed to win their group on goal difference. Two draws against Egypt and Iran didn’t feel anyone with confidence but a big 5-1 win against New Zealand has restored some of it.
Defensively the Belgians have looked good but until the game against New Zealand the attack looked weak. Leandro Trossard and Kevin De Bruyne have been the only real standouts for Belgium going forward.
Now Belgium must face a Senegal team that although they finished third in their group will be a tough opponent. They lost their first two games against France and Norway 3-1 and 3-2 respectively.
They did manage to turn things around with a big 5-0 win against Iraq and the African Cup of Nations finalists will be tough to beat. Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr has been a standout for Senegal and Belgium will have to keep an eye on him.
Expect an entertaining game where both teams will cancel each other out over 90 minutes.
Tip 2: Pape Gueye to be shown a card
Pape Gueye was an ever present during the African Cup of Nations, starting six of the seven games that Senegal played. During the games he committed 13 fouls and was fouled 13 times as well.
He was shown a card twice in that tournament and he is likely to commit a few fouls in this game. He has only committed two fouls in the three group games, but he saw a yellow card against Iran and could easily get another one here.
Tip 3: Ismaila Sarr 1+ shot on target, Kevin De Bruyne to score & Pape Gueye to be shown a card
Ismaila Sarr has had a good World Cup so far and is arguably the standout on the Senegal team going into the knockout rounds. He has had 12 shots with five hitting the target. He has also scored three goals and had one assist in the group games. He should get at least one shot on target in this game.
Kevin De Bruyne has been Belgium’s most attacking threat throughout all three group games. The Napoli midfielder has had 16 shots with four hitting the target. He scored in Belgium’s last game against New Zealand, and he could get some opportunities against a Senegalese side that has conceded six goals in three games.
Finally add Pape Gueye to be shown a card. The Villareal midfielder saw 11 yellow cards in all competitions last season and has already been booked once during this World Cup.
