World Cup Group E Predictions & Betting Tips

Group E is one of the friendliest draws Germany could have hoped for. Julian Nagelsmann's side open against the smallest nation ever to qualify for a World Cup - Curacao, with a population of around 156,000 - before facing Ivory Coast and Ecuador.
By average ranking, this is one of the easier groups in the tournament, and Germany should be heavy favourites to win it comfortably.
That said, Ivory Coast won AFCON 2023 on home soil and have plenty of European-based talent, and Ecuador are a tough, well-drilled side under Sebastian Beccacece.
The battle for second and third place is more competitive than it might look on paper, and there is value in the Round of 32 qualification markets.

Group E Teams & Form
Germany
Germany haven't made it out of the groups at a World Cup since they won the whole thing in 2014, so even if they are recognised as one of the stronger squads, they still have a lot to prove.
Julian Nagelsmann has settled the side and his contract was extended through to Euro 2028 on the back of recent progress, having reached the quarter-finals at Euro 2024.
Their qualifying campaign was emphatic, and the squad blends Bundesliga and Premier League experience (Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala, Kai Havertz, Joshua Kimmich) with elite quality across the pitch, which should be more than enough to coast through this group - even despite
Curacao
Curacao are the smallest nation ever to qualify for a World Cup. Dick Advocaat, the 78-year-old Dutchman, has guided them to North America in his fourth coaching stint with the national team.
The squad is built around Eredivisie experience and there is genuine pride in their qualification, but the gap to Germany and Ivory Coast is enormous. They will be heavy underdogs in every match.
Ivory Coast
The Elephants won AFCON 2023 on home soil and have a squad packed with European-based talent.
Sebastien Haller, Wilfried Zaha (still active in the squad), Franck Kessie and Simon Adingra give them attacking options that few African sides can match.
They came through CAF qualifying without losing a match. Of the three non-European sides in this group, Ivory Coast look the most likely to push Germany.
Ecuador
Ecuador qualified comfortably from CONMEBOL and arrive as a young, energetic side.
Sebastian Beccacece has built a high-pressing structure with Chelsea's Moises Caicedo anchoring the midfield.
Ecuador reached the Round of 16 in 2022 - narrowly beaten by the Netherlands - and they have improved since. They are the dark horse of this group.
Group E Predictions
Germany should win the group comfortably. Anything less than three wins would be a major shock, and they have the squad depth to manage rotation while still picking the strongest XI for the matches that matter.
The fight for second is between Ivory Coast and Ecuador. Both are credible top-three sides, with Ecuador's defensive structure giving them a slight edge in our view. Curacao will struggle to take points off any of the other three, but the new format gives them a theoretical route through if everything else falls into place.
Backing two of the three second-tier sides to qualify alongside Germany is the safest read on this group.
Group E Betting Tips
Find more analysis on every fixture in our World Cup 2026 tips hub as the tournament approaches, but here are three top prices and pre-tournament tips to use with our free bet offers.
Tip 1: Germany to Win Group E
Germany are short-priced favourites for a reason. Even despite their recent World Cup record, the squad quality, manager continuity and gentle draw should make this almost a procession. They should win all three group games and progress with a healthy goal difference.
The only argument against backing them is that the price is too short to be meaningful. Use Germany as the anchor leg in a bet builder rather than a standalone bet.
Tip 2: Ecuador to Qualify From Group E
Ecuador are the dark horse pick. Beccacece has a structured side that defends well, presses hard, and has Caicedo running the midfield. They have the tools to beat both Curacao and Ivory Coast and finish second behind Germany.
The price on Ecuador to qualify (top three) offers more value than backing Ivory Coast to do the same, given the Africans' defensive frailties in recent friendlies.
Tip 3: Bet Builder - Germany to Win Group E & Ivory Coast and Ecuador Both to Qualify
This bet builder backs all three of the strongest sides in the group to progress, with Germany on top. The new three-from-four format makes this a high-probability outcome and the combined price gives a much more attractive return than backing each leg individually.
The risk is Curacao pinching a result against Ecuador or Ivory Coast - possible but improbable given the squad gulf. This is the most logical way to bet on Group E, but there's not much return from the market.
Market Outlook
Germany are heavy favourites to win Group E and a strong shout in the wider outright market. Ivory Coast and Ecuador are mid-market outsiders to top the group but both are reasonably priced to finish in the top three. Curacao sit at the longest prices in every market, reflecting the squad gap.
