Netherlands vs Japan: World Cup 2026 Betting Tips & Predictions
Adam Martin
With the World Cup now in full swing, we have got a great matchup to look forward to on Sunday evening. The Netherlands are going to be taking on Japan in what could be the game that decides group F.
The Netherlands have historically been contenders but are not the same as they once were. Japan, however, have looked good going into the tournament and will believe they can win the group.
Let’s take a look at three betting tips for ahead of Sunday evening's clash at AT&T Stadium, plus the top World Cup free bets currently available.
Netherlands vs Japan Tips
Here are our top three World Cup betting tips and the best free bets ahead of this game.
Tip 1: Draw & both teams to score
The Netherlands had a good qualifying campaign, going unbeaten with six wins and two draws. Despite that their warmup games for this tournament have not been so good with a 1-0 loss to Algeria and a tight 2-1 win against Uzbekistan.
The team is filled with top European league players, but it feels like they are missing real star power. They still rely on veteran forward Memphis Depay for goals and it’s difficult to see how they overpower teams.
They must take on a solid Japanese side who have looked impressive over the last few years. Since they started their qualifying campaign in March 2024, they have only lost twice, against Australia and the USA.
They have also had some impressive wins over that time, beating Brazil and England in impressive style. They don’t have any main stars, but they do have a good team who can cause an upset.
Expect both teams to give it a go but ultimately cancel each other in what should be an entertaining affair.
Tip 2: Cody Gakpo to score
Cody Gakpo didn’t have the greatest season for Liverpool, but he still managed to score seven goals and have five assists in the Premier League. He also managed another two goals and one assist in the Champions League as well.
The Liverpool forward had a great qualifying campaign scoring four goals and getting four assists in the eight games. He has also got some good recent form after scoring two goals against Uzbekistan last week.
Gakpo is a solid price to score anytime and should get some opportunities in this game.
Tip 3: Ayase Ueda 1+ shot on target, Denzel Dumfries to be shown a card & Cody Gakpo to score
Ayase Ueda started in nine of Japan’s qualifying games for the World Cup, but it became their top scorer. The Feyenoord forward scored eight goals and had two assists in the team’s successful campaign. He also had 25 shots with 16 of them hitting the target giving him a 64% conversion rate.
Denzel Dumfries has been an ever present for the Netherlands over the last few years now but at 30 this is likely to be his last tournament. He only started 20 games for Inter Milan last season, but he committed 20 fouls and was booked twice. He could easily see a card against one of Japan’s tricky wingers.
Finally add Cody Gakpo to score anytime. The Liverpool forward has had a quiet season in the Premier League but he was vital in the Netherlands qualifying campaign scoring four goals and getting four assists in eight games.
