Portugal will be aiming to bounce back in style when they face Uzbekistan in their forthcoming World Cup Group K clash in Houston.
Roberto Martinez’s men were frustrated by DR Congo in a disappointing 1-1 draw, while tournament debutants Uzbekistan were overpowered by Colombia, slumping to a 3-1 defeat.

Tip 1: Portugal to win & both teams to score
Portugal were one of the surprise stories of the first round of group matches, but not for the right reasons.
In their opening fixture against DR Congo, Portugal racked up 724 completed passes, their most in a World Cup game, but they were underwhelming and lacked their usual pizzazz.
Uzbekistan, meanwhile, struggled to impose themselves against Colombia on their World Cup bow, as they didn’t record a single touch in the opposition box in the first half.
At one point, Uzbekistan had an xG (expected goals) rate of just 0.02. Although their first touch in the opposition box led to a goal, Uzbekistan ultimately folded with Colombia’s class told in the latter stages.
Portugal though will have been fuming with how things unravelled against DR Congo, and Roberto Martinez will be deliberating over whether to start Cristiano Ronaldo again given his anonymous performance. Although Uzbekistan may try to pack players in and around their box, Portugal to win and both teams to score offers value.
Tip 2: Vitinha to provide an assist
Vitinha is always happy to get on the ball, and against DR Congo, he completed 121 passes, the most by a Portugal player in a single game in the competition.
Although Vitinha struggled to unlock DR Congo’s compact shape, he can be relied upon to provide purpose in attacking transitions while operating from deeper positions.
I think he could exert a bit more influence against Uzbekistan, and he’ll be looking to find and release Joao Neves wherever possible.
Vitinha may have only contributed four assists from 39 senior caps earned for Portugal, but I have a hunch he will feed a team-mate for a goal.
Tip 3: Vitinha to provide an assist, a goal in both halves (Yes) & over 7.5 shots on target

Some games at the World Cup have been slow burners, but this contest could have a bit more ebb and flow. A goal to be scored in both halves doesn’t seem unrealistic.
