When & Where Is The 2023 Welsh Grand National?

The Welsh Grand National is run at Chepstow Racecourse, traditionally between Christmas and New Year, and is seen as one of the most important staying chases of the season.

Since 2003, two Welsh Grand National winners have gone on to win the Aintree Grand National, and two have won the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

This year’s Welsh Grand National is scheduled for Wednesday, December 27.


What Happened Last Year?

The 2022 Welsh Grand National was won by The Two Amigos at 16/1, ridden by Welsh jockey David Prichard and trained by Nicky Martin.

Having finished fifth in the race in 2019 and runner-up in 2020, The Two Amigos led the 17-strong pack for most of the race and successfully held off challenges from The Big Breakaway and The Big Dog.

The victory was a special one for Prichard, who was born in Pontypridd, describing the success as the “best win of his career.”
