Next Bournemouth Manager Odds: McKenna Favourite To Replace Andoni Iraola

April 14, 2026 at 10:52 pm GMT+1

Andoni Iraola has confirmed he will leave Bournemouth at the end of the season, ending a transformative two-year spell at the Vitality Stadium.

The Spaniard's announcement comes with the Cherries sitting 11th in the Premier League and European qualification still alive - a remarkable achievement for a club of Bournemouth's resources.

Sporting director Tiago Pinto now faces the biggest decision of his tenure, and the betting sites have already reacted sharply.

Here at FreeBets.com, we've taken a close look at the five names generating the most serious interest, weighing up their credentials, current situations, and suitability for the Vitality hotseat.

Kieran McKenna

Kieran McKenna is the current favourite and, according to multiple credible sources, sits at the top of Tiago Pinto's shortlist.

The 39-year-old Northern Irishman is still in charge at Ipswich Town, currently second in the Championship and pushing hard for an immediate return to the Premier League following last season's relegation.

His career arc is remarkable - two back-to-back promotions at Portman Road, transforming a League One club into a top-flight side in the space of two seasons.

His pressing-based, possession-driven football would be a natural fit for what Iraola built on the south coast.

The stumbling block is a reported £5 million release clause, and Ipswich fans will rightly argue their manager is going nowhere while promotion is still on the table.

If the Tractor Boys fall short, however, McKenna could well be tempted south.

Marco Rose

Marco Rose is the other name confirmed on Bournemouth's shortlist and, crucially, available right now with zero compensation required.

The German was sacked by RB Leipzig in March 2025 and has reportedly knocked back interest from Saudi Arabian clubs, holding out specifically for an English top-flight post.

He came close to landing the Tottenham job in February before being passed over for Igor Tudor - a decision that lasted 44 days.

His track record is impressive - two Austrian Bundesliga titles at Red Bull Salzburg, a Champions League last-16 appearance at Monchengladbach, and the DFB-Pokal with Leipzig in 2023.

His Red Bull-influenced, counter-pressing style is exactly what the Vitality crowd has come to expect. Immediate availability at no cost is a huge financial plus for the recruitment team.

Jens Berthel Askou

Jens Berthel Askou is the most left-field name on this list and the only one without any confirmed link to Bournemouth.

The 43-year-old Dane has done an outstanding job at Motherwell since arriving last summer, guiding them to fourth in the Scottish Premiership with the division's best defensive record and winning Manager of the Month twice.

His coaching philosophy - high pressing, possession-based football, meticulous set-piece preparation - ticks boxes that Bournemouth's recruitment team values, and he has past English football experience from spells at Norwich and Millwall as a player.

The stumbling block is that virtually every report around Askou places him heading to Celtic in the summer, not the south coast.

Unless that move falls through, Bournemouth are likely to look elsewhere first, but he is a name worth monitoring as European clubs begin to take notice.

Edin Terzic

Edin Terzic has been out of work since voluntarily resigning from Borussia Dortmund in June 2024 - and by every account has been waiting specifically for the right English job.

He spent two years as assistant manager at West Ham, holds a UEFA Pro Licence earned through the English FA, and passed on multiple Continental offers, including Monaco and Eintracht Frankfurt.

He rejected an approach from Tottenham earlier this season, wanting to wait for a club that matched his ambitions - and Bournemouth's upward trajectory might just tick that box.

The highlight of his Dortmund reign speaks for itself - a Champions League final in 2024.

The complication is growing noise linking him to Athletic Bilbao.

If that deal fails to materialise, Terzic is an elite free agent with Premier League credentials and England already in his blood.

Eddie Howe

No managerial appointment in English football would carry more emotional weight than Eddie Howe returning to Bournemouth.

He grew up in Dorset, spent his career as a player at the Vitality, and when injury forced him out, local fans raised £21,000 to buy him from Portsmouth.

As manager, he took the club from minus 17 points in the Conference to the Premier League, delivering three promotions in seven years and five consecutive top-flight seasons.

His current position at Newcastle is under serious pressure - 14th in the table, heavy Champions League defeats, and a CEO who refused to back him publicly during the international break, so an exit this summer looks likely.

Whether Howe wants a reunion with the club he loves or holds out for another elite posting remains the key question - but the romantic pull of this one is impossible to ignore.
