Michael van Gerwen to win & hit 16+ 180s vs Chris Dobey
We’ve seen glimmers of Michael van Gerwen’s very best form over the past couple of weeks.
The three-time former world champion had to average 103 to get rid of the impressive Callan Rydz in Wednesday’s quarter-final, hitting 14 maximums en route to the last four despite losing 18-17 in legs to the Englishman.
This timing from MVG is priceless at the Worlds and something that he has learnt to master over years of experience inside Ally Pally.
Chris Dobey rallied well to brush aside Gerwyn Price to reach his first semi-final at the World Championship, and his power scoring is what has seen him slide into the last four.
The Geordie looked a little nervy in finishing Price off with some wayward doubles, but will be more concerned of the 11-4 head-to-head record he has endured against “Mighty Mike”.
MVG looks like he is warming up well at the back end of this tournament – he has lost just two of his eight semi-final appearance at the Worlds and we’re not expecting him to add another L to that tally.
Luke Littler to beat Stephen Bunting 6-4
It may feel like to some that Luke Litter’s name is on the trophy this year, but in Stephen Bunting, the “Nuke” has to navigate one of the most consistent players of 2024.
The “Bullet” crushed Peter Wright in the quarters without breaking a sweat, and thanks to consistent maximums and ton+ checkouts, the St. Helens man is a healthy look as a 4/1 underdog with Paddy Power.
But Littler is consistently averaging in the 100s at the moment, and for Bunting to win six sets against the 17-year-old, it’s going to have to be one of the best performances ever seen on the Ally Pally stage.
That’s not to say he can’t do it – the Masters champion is now in the top five players in the world, and with the Bunting army behind him will fancy his chances.
But we are siding with Littler, as he speeds for the finish line after a nip and tuck opening handful of sets.
