Australia vs England Ashes Tips, Predictions & Odds - Fifth Test

After just 13 days of cricket across four Test matches so far, the Ashes heads for its conclusion at Sydney this week, with England buoyed by a chaotic win at the MCG.
The two-day win - the second two-day Test of the series - was England's first win on Australia soil since 2010/11, and could open the floodgates for Ben Stokes' side while Australia will be looking to give Usman Khawaja a good send-off after he announced his impending international retirement.
Free Bets cricket expert, Will Jackson, has picked out some top tips across markets ahead of the fifth Test as England look to avoid further embarrassment.
Australia vs England Ashes Tips
Here are our cricket betting tips ahead of the fifth Test in Sydney, exclusively with BoyleSports.
Tip 1: England to win
It has been a strange old series.
On the one hand, England have been pretty miserable and comfortably beaten by a more battle-hardened team but on the other, even at their worst they have had moments in games where they have had a foot in the door.
They should have won in Perth considering their position early on day two, they had the pick of the conditions in Brisbane after winning the toss and proceeded to drop catches and let Australia run away with the game, and then had a couple of disputable DRS calls gone their way in Adelaide it could have been a very different story in the third Test as well.
Australia have clearly been the better side, but you wonder if the series had been starting a couple of weeks ago - would England be in a better position to win the series?
We saw a bit of the old confidence we're used to seeing from this side in Melbourne and that win should release the shackles and put a very different slant on the series.
Gus Atkinson's absence will be one problem for the tourists though, but then again, I don't think they will be sweating over the prospect of Todd Murphy bowling at them and with plenty of tension in the Australia batting line-up, I think there's a very good chance to pick up another win in Sydney.
Tip 2: Usman Khawaja to score a first-innings fifty
It has been coming a long time and was no surprise when Khawaja announced his retirement a couple of days out from the first day.
His returns have been diminishing and at the age of 39 isn't a reliable option for either the 2027 Ashes or the next WTC Final should Australia get there.
He has been a great servant to the Australia side with over 6,000 Test runs and 16 centuries to date, and his recent weaknesses have been masked somewhat by a return to the middle order after the opening Test.
His record at the SCG in particular is worthy of mentioning, with four centuries in nine matches and an average of 87.50 - is there time for one last hurrah?
A century would be asking a lot in a bowler-dominated series, but if Sydney is flatter than the MCG was - although I would still expect it to be a challenge - then the middle-order players should thrive.
Tip 3: Crawley top run-scorer, Tongue top wicket-taker in England first innings
We're siding with two in-form players for England in this one, and two of the few players who will come out of this tour with credit in the bank.
After a pair in Perth, Crawley has shown both why the selectors have persisted with him and why he has infuriated England fans so often over the years, but there have been encouraging signs in his approach in recent matches.
If he can continue to reign in his impetuous driving habit, he really does have the game to dominate attacks and become a top-drawer opener.
The 77 he made at Sydney four years ago was the innings that set off this current run at the top of the order for England so he has fond memories at the ground, and he will be desperate to tick off the final landmark for him personally in this series after three half-centuries - a century.
If he can get through Mitchell Starc's opening burst there is nothing to be afraid of in the Australia attack so I'm hoping we can see him knuckle down once again.
In terms of Tongue, lots of England followers are getting quite excited about his ability and just how good he can be after picking up eight wickets at Melbourne.
His awkward action and good pace means he should be able to pick up wickets on any surface and not just rely on the help provided at the MCG.
Whether he can back it up or not will be the big question, but I'll be interested to see the Australia approach to his bowling this week because I think they will be quite wary of what he has to offer.
