2025 World Grand Prix Tips Day 1
Monday night’s alright for darting in Leicester, as the Grand Prix heads to the Mattioli Arena for the opening evening of combat on the oche.
16 players take to the stage looking to advance into the second round, all needing two sets under their belts in order to make it onto Wednesday’s schedule.
We’ve got former Grand Prix kings and former world champions in action.
Let’s take a look at some of the best darts tips for Day 1 of the action in Leicester
Tip 1: Wessel Nijman to beat Rob Cross at 4/5 with bet365
Over the last 12 months of action on the PDC Tour, only six men have bettered the 42.44% checkout percentage of Wessel Nijman.
This accuracy from the 25-year-old Dutchman should stand him in good stead coming into the ‘double in, double out’ format of the Grand Prix, against Rob Cross who has a pretty poor record at this tournament.
“Voltage” has reached the quarter-finals just once in eight attempts, and an on song Nijman may be too much for the former world champion.
Tip 2: Gary Anderson to win, most 180s and highest checkout vs Raymond van Barneveld at 13/8 with bet365
Two veterans and former world champions, Gary Anderson and Raymond van Barneveld, will slug it out in the opening round, and we’re expecting one-way traffic for the “Flying Scotsman”.
Anderson may not be picking up trophy after trophy like he did in this pomp, but the Scot currently holds the fifth highest average on tour over the past 12 months at a whopping 97.84.
Anderson has never won this title — his best performance: a runner-up finish in 2016 — and we’re not expecting him to do so in 2025, but “Barney” is there for the taking in this one, and the Dutchman is expected to struggle on his doubling.
At 38.71% for the season, van Barneveld will have to push this checkout percentage up if he is to lay a glove on the Scot.
Tip 3: Stephen Bunting 2-1 Niko Springer at 11/5 with bet365
Winning the Hungarian Darts Trophy in mid-September has been a career-changer for Niko Springer.
The German has flown up the Order of Merit and enters these televised tournaments with a new confidence that he can challenge for silverware.
Springer’s three-dart average sits inside the PDC’s top 26 and if the heavy-hitting Bunting isn’t on form, then Springer could spring a surprise on the “Bullet”.
We’re not backing the upset, but Springer should be good enough to register a set — especially considering he has a better checkout percentage for the season than Bunting.
