2025 World Grand Prix Tips Day 4
History was made on Tuesday night at the Darts Grand Prix, but in a losing effort.
An incredible 106.47 average by Dutchman Gian van Veen was a new record for the tournament, but it didn’t stop the reigning Youth World Champion from getting swept aside by Luke Littler.
Littler raced into the second round for the first time in just 11 minutes, averaging a mega 105.58 himself, putting down a marker for what could follow in Leicester this week.
Elsewhere, Michael van Gerwen was dumped out by fellow Dutchman Dirk van Duijvenbode, Gerwyn Price hurdled a tough challenge from Ryan Searle and reigning champion Mike De Decker edged out Peter Wright.
It’s Littler and De Decker who square off on Thursday in the highlight of the schedule, whereas Price has a tough assignment in the in-form Josh Rock.
Let’s take a look at some of the best darts tips for day four of the action in Leicester.
Tip 1: Gerwyn Price vs Josh Rock - Over 4.5 sets
Be prepared for a heated cracker between Price and Rock.
Both men are enjoying fruitful 2025s and head to Leicester with genuine ambitions of picking up the title, it’s just a shame for both players that they meet so early in the draw bracket.
They were both made to work to get to this stage after 2-1 victories on Tuesday night, but both have the sticking power in these televised events to refuse to be beaten easily.
We’re expecting averages in the low 90s here with Price and Rock trading blows for five sets.
Who wins? No idea.
Tip 2: Jonny Clayton - Match win & Most 180s vs Luke Woodhouse
Jonny Clayton is looking back to his best.
His four major titles in 2021 seem a lifetime away now, but the Welshman is growing in consistency on the tour and finds himself in a good little segment in Leicester.
He wasn’t made to work too hard to get past Andrew Gilding in the opener dropping just three legs, and an emotionally exhausted Luke Woodhouse might struggle to keep up with the pace of the “Ferret”.
Woodhouse should have lost to Damon Heta, averaging just a touch over 80, but was let off the hook in the deciding leg.
In a race to three sets the cream should rise to the top a little quicker in this second round tie.
Tip 3: Luke Littler 3-0 Mike De Decker
It doesn’t look like Luke Littler is willing to mess around in Leicester.
The “Nuke” was punch-perfect in knocking out Gian van Veen on Tuesday and you’ve got to assume that Mike De Decker will be next in the firing line of the world champion.
De Decker had to scrap against Peter Wright and it’s unlikely he will be able to repeat the form that saw him lift this title 12 months ago.
Littler looks zoned in and could well sweep the Belgian if he is able to get off to his trademark fast start.
