Charlie heads to Newton Abbot on Monday for his best bet
It's a busy day of racing action in the UK and Ireland, and Charlie McCann is here with his exclusive free horse racing tips - only at FreeBets.
3:29pm Hamilton - Impartiality
Soft ground at Hamilton, and the two last-time-out winners Geo and Good Morning Alex like to race prominently, and the hope is they ensure a decent enough test for the strong travelling IMPARTIALITY to finally get off the mark this term.
The four-year-old often races over further than today's extended mile, but his three career wins have been over 7.5f (2) and over course and distance last May. All three wins have been gained on good ground, but he has run well in defeat on both soft and heavy ground. He will need a good gallop at the extended mile given he will likely be held up off the pace, but he deserves to get his head back in front at a track where he has a record of 1-4-2.
It is rare that I change my copy, but I originally had Jack Channon's Crest Of Fire and Gavriel as my two against the field in the Cambridgeshire, and I looked on in anguish as the former flashed past the post, seemingly, having won the prestigious handicap at Newmarket. I was thrilled – sorry for his backers – that the photo went against the grey.
Channon makes the journey up from his Lambourn base with Hot Cash, who is visored for the first time. He wore first-time cheekpieces when second at Chester last time over a furlong shorter, and he will appreciate the extra distance. He is 3lbs below his last winning mark, soft ground suits, and he is considered the chief threat.
Recommendation: Impartiality - 11/2 with bet365
5:13pm Hamilton - African Gib (Each-Way)
In the 12f handicap, Sunnysideofdstreet has gone off 50/1, 100/1 and 150/1 on her three starts in Dundalk maiden last winter and beat just one horse home in those runs over an inadequate seven furlongs. She returns from a 290-day absence this afternoon for Joseph O'Brien in the colours of the broadcaster Kevin Blake.
She is bred to be better than a rating of forty-five – half-sister to five winners – and it will be interesting to see how short she is put in by the layers. She has no entries later in the week but has until Friday week, if successful, to take advantage of what could be an extremely advantageous opening mark. Joanna Mason takes the ride.
There is every chance on breeding – but not the form book - that Sunnysideofdstreet has a couple of stone in hand of her mark, but I am going to throw a couple of pounds each-way on AFRICAN GIB (Each-Way) who pulled like a train and was forced to cover plenty of ground when fourth at Windsor last time over 11.5f.
Looking back on the race, I thought he did well to stay on all the way to the line from a 2lbs higher mark. Jack Dace takes over in the plate, taking off another 5lbs, and David Menuisier's three-year-old travels all the way up from his Sussex base. Menuisier – who was married on Saturday – is unlikely to be honeymooning in Glasgow, but his last three runners have finished 1-2-1, and this inmate gets the each-way vote.
Recommendation: African Gib (Each-Way) - 10/1 with bet365 (3 places)
3:00pm Newton Abbot - Inside Man (Nap)
Gore Point won four chases on fast ground over the summer before bombing out here last month over course and distance when ridden by Sam Twiston-Davies. He has been raised 29lbs for those wins, and I will be disappointed if this does not go to one of the chasing newcomers, Minella Jury or INSIDE MAN (Nap), with preference for the Jane Williams-trained six-year-old.
Sam Twiston-Davies – rather than the owner's retained jockey Brian Hughes – takes the mount on Minella Jury, a winner of a Wexford Bumper and Uttoxeter maiden hurdle. The grey may well have followed up at Doncaster on soft ground had he not come down at the last, and the winner scored from a 6lbs higher mark next time.
Inside Man won over hurdles off this mark here first time out last year on good ground – needs a sound surface – and he has the stamp of a chaser. First time out might be the time to catch him, although it is worth noting that there was up to 5mm of rain due to hit the track Sunday afternoon, although race day is due to be dry and sunny.
The selection would like a good gallop to chase, and the hope is that Minella Jury and/or Gore Point go a gallop in what promises to be an intriguing four-runner event.
