1:55pm Doncaster - Asuka (Each-Way)

Blue Brother is proving expensive to follow and drops back in distance to six-and-a-half furlongs in a hot handicap on the final day of the Leger meeting at Doncaster. I have enjoyed the racing and thought that conditions were perfect for racing in early autumn: good ground with a bit of give and no excuses… although Rock Montreal really ought to have won the opener on Friday, shouldn't he?

Completely Random heads the market and looks sure to run well over this unusual trip, but I liked the way ASUKA (Each-Way) travelled from his wide draw at Chester last time when he looked a non-stayer over an additional furlong. He had won his two previous starts over six and seven furlongs, and this drop back in distance could be decisive, although his pedigree suggests further will suit.

Note a big run from the second - Collecting Coin- at Leopardstown on Saturday would give the form a boost.

Recommendation: Asuka (Each-Way) - 6/1 with Ladbroes (4 places)

2:50pm Curragh - Green Empress (Nap)

Aidan O'Brien's Sun Goddess will be having the seventh start of her juvenile season but appears to be thriving for her racing and, having beaten the boys in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes over 6f here last month, she sluiced up in a valuable Sales race at York last time.

She has yet to race beyond 6f but does give the impression she will get the trip, although there are mixed messages on breeding.

Joseph O'Brien's Sun Goddess was beaten a cosy three-quarters of a length by GREEN EMPRESS (Nap) in a Group 2 here back in June - had finished 5l behind the market leader on debut - and she has since improved for the step up to 7f when landing the Group 2 Debutante Stakes here last month.

She is clearly progressing well and can reverse the form with Sun Goddess at the third time of asking.

Recommendation: Green Empress (Nap) - 5/2 with bet365

This is Charlie's Nap of the Day selection - see how it stacks up against Alan Kelly's pick too.

3:40pm Doncaster - All In You (Each-Way)

I'm not convinced this is the strongest renewal of the Mallard Handicap. My two against the field are Say What You See and ALL IN YOU (Each-Way), with preference for the Warren Greatrex-trained dual-purpose horse who has been off the track since failing to get home over 2m4f in the Ascot Stakes back in June.

The selection was all at sea when strongly fancied for the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury in March on the heavy ground, and the hope is that he is freshened up and fit to do himself justice after a near three-month break. I know his French form suggests soft ground suits, but he bounced off good ground at Sandown in January - yes, it was good - and we all know that French going descriptions are not an exact science.

It is possible that Greatrex is using this as a prep for a return to hurdling, but this strong traveller has always struck me as the type to win a decent flat handicap over 12-14f. He is invariably held up out the back, and the hope is that they go a good gallop and he can pick them up in the long home straight.

Say What You See has stamina to prove, stepping up in distance, but has been progressing all summer and looked ready for further when a staying on third at York (12f) last time in, arguably, a better race.

Recommendation: All In You (Each-Way) - 15/2 with bet365 (3 places)
