Charlie heads to Newmarket on Thursday for his best bet
It's a busy day of racing action in the UK and Ireland, and Charlie McCann is here with his exclusive free horse racing tips - only at FreeBets.
1:50pm Newmarket - Bear On The Run (Nap)
I was impressed with the York win of Mezzo Forte at York, but I thought he relished the rain-softened ground, and I wonder whether he will be quite as effective on what is described as good ground at Newmarket for their three-day meeting. I wonder whether he will be as effective on what is likely to be fast ground on the Rowley Mile, although the clerk of the course described it as good on Wednesday morning, having applied 8mm of water earlier in the week.
King Of Berkshire (4:10pm) did us a favour at Windsor last week and is 3lbs well-in despite his 6lbs penalty. This is a much stronger race, however, and my only recommendation on the card is Irish raider BEAR ON THE RUN (Nap) in the 6f fillies’ handicap.
The selection was weak in the market but overcame a 12-month absence to get up close home in a similar contest at the Curragh last month under an inspired Dylan Browne McMonagle. The latter is still on the sidelines and Ben Coen – his sole ride at the meeting – takes over in the plate.
The filly has only had three career starts – won two – and still holds an entry in a Group 3 at the Curragh at the weekend. The classic generation have won three of the last four renewals of the race and I will be disappointed if Daniel Murphy’s filly does not run a big race although there are no prices available at the time of writing.

2:14pm Perth - The Last Cloud
The 2m4f Novices’ Handicap Chase is a cracker, but do note top-weight Tamarind Bay was declared for the 3m handicap chase here on Tuesday.
The Patrick Neville horses have been needing their reappearance, and THE LAST CLOUD travelled well to two out when beaten 15l over an inadequate 2m here at Perth on his reappearance over hurdles last month.
The grey looks every inch a chaser and steps back up in distance by half a mile for his first start over the larger obstacles, and Brian Hughes said of the six-year-old in Paul Ferguson’s Jumpers To Follow:
“Another who needed his reappearance run at Perth, I'm looking forward to him over fences, as I've schooled him at home and he jumps like a buck.”
Neville has had two winners in the last fortnight from six runners, and The Last Cloud gets the vote ahead of another chase debutant, Spectacularsunrise, who was third over hurdles at this meeting last season for Team Twiston-Davies but is another who can leave his hurdle form behind now sent chasing.
Recommendation: The Last Cloud
3:52pm Pontefract - Be Patient
Per Contra did us a favour at Redcar last time and should remain competitive from a 4lbs higher mark, although this is a much better race.
BE PATIENT has been gelded since he looked a non-stayer over 12f at Newmarket last month, and this stiff ten furlongs should suit this lightly raced three-year-old as long as he is over the recent procedure. He has been dropped a pound since his latest Newmarket run, and Oisin Orr – who was in the saddle for his Doncaster win at this trip in the spring – returns to the plate despite the fact that Callum Rodriquez – number one for the Ed Bethell stable – is at the meeting.
Recommendation: Be Patient - 5/1 with Paddy Power
