Tip 1: 1:10pm Cheltenham - Inox Allen (EW)
A wide open novice handicap kicks off the card, and there's plenty in with chances here. Inox Allen is the pick, a Scottish raider who could not have been any more impressive when winning a Perth handicap at the end of last season. This is much tougher, and he's 11lb higher in the weights, but looked a nice prospect, and his clued up trainer wouldn't send him down her for nothing.
- Recommendation: Inox Allen EW at 11/1 (4 Places) with Betfred
Tip 2: 1:45pm Cheltenham - Pour Les Filles
The story so far for Pour Les Filles hasn't been great, with injuries preventing him from getting anywhere. But here, the first time he's ran two consecutive races without an issues, I'm hoping things start to go his way. A wide margin winner last time out in a minor race, there's clearly hope he's good, otherwise he wouldn't be sent over, I'll take a chance that he is.
- Recommendation: Pour Les Filles at 3/1 with bet365
Tip 3: 2:20pm Cheltenham - Hyland (EW)
The ultra consistent Hyland is taken here each way, in the hope he can return in good form, and showcase his love for this track once again. He won twice here last season before two good second placed efforts elsewhere, then he was pulled up in the Grand National, when the distance was too far. If he's fit enough to do himself justice first time up, he looks to have a great chance.
- Recommendation: Hyland (EW) at 6/1 (5 places) with bet365
Tip 4: 2:55pm Cheltenham - Gowel Road (EW)
Pertemps qualifiers are often the toughest to solve, and at the start of the season, probably even tougher. It's maybe best to look past the dark horses here, and go with something proven, who won't be trying to keep anything in hand, and Gowel Road fits that bill for me. Competitive off this kind of mark, goes well at the start of the season, has nothing to hide, at double figure odds I'll chance him each way in this minefield.
- Recommendation: Gowel Road (EW) at 12/1 (6 Places) with Paddy Power
Tip 5: 3:30pm Cheltenham - Give It To Me Oj
A disappointing turn out, but what that means is an excellent chance for Give It To Me Oj to get an early hurdles win on the board, as he looks to progress from last season. Winner of a big handicap final at the end of last season, he's here on the back of a nice flat win last month, so will be fit enough. Potentially well above these, he looks the rock solid option.
- Recommendation: Give It To Me Oj at 4/7 with with bet365
Tip 6: 4:05pm Cheltenham - Welcom To Cartries
A novice chase that might be worth following. The Irish send plenty of interesting runners, but it's a British horse, Welcom To Cartries, that adds a fascination for me, and is my pick. Twice a runner over fences, thrown into Grade Two company for debut, then send into a Grade One, despite not winning his debut. Since then, small issues have kept him off the track, and then to hurdles so he can remain a novice. He could be anything, must be well thought of, and is value getting weight at the bottom.
- Recommendation: Welcom to Cartries at 5/1 with Paddy Power
Tip 7: 4:40pm Cheltenham - Chicker
A flat race with little form concludes the card, plenty of interesting runners here but Chicker gets my vote, after being super impressive on his only start, and win, so far. A six length winner at Worcester at the end of August, you get the feeling this was always the plan, and he should be sharper than most with that run under him. He might just have the speed to get away from these in the closing contest.
- Recommendation: Chicker at 11/4 with William Hill
