Livingston vs Ayr United - Livingston to win
Livingston had a really disappointing start to the season, so much so that they sacked manager Glenn Whelan after a defeat to Stenhousemuir. Since then, with Davie Martindale (surprisingly) back in the dugout, they beat Morton 4-1, drew 2-2 with Inverness and beat Raith 2-0 at Starks Park.
The latter was an excellent result given Raith’s start to the season and they have plenty of quality within their team having brought a decent amount of players in this summer.
Ayr United started really well under Gary Naysmith but have lost three, drawn one and won one of their last five. The only team they have managed to beat in that period is struggling Queen’s Park which isn’t much to shout about.
The early signs were so promising but they are struggling to score and keep goals out at the other end.
With Livi looking like they are gathering momentum, this could be an easy home win.
Morton vs Raith Rovers - Raith Rovers to win
You’ve got to feel for Morton fans with all the controversy and uncertainty off of the pitch and things have been arguably as bad on it. With no wins, one draw and seven defeats out of eight, Ian Murray was sacked on Thursday with the club now almost completely rudderless.
They have the worst defensive record in the league and have scored the joint lowest number of goals and have failed to score in the last two.
Raith have had a great start to the season, probably much better than they were expecting too! They have won four, drawn two and lost two so far with those losses coming within the last five against Dunfermline and Livingston respectively, two tough games.
They have added firepower with John Robertson, George Oakley and Anton Dowds which has worked excellently for them so far and defensively with Baird and Hanlon they have plenty of experience keeping other teams out.
Morton have a young, inexperienced and small squad, this was already going to be a tough fixture never mind going into with a manager.
This should be a comfortable win for Raith in my opinion.
Ross County vs Alloa Athletic - Over 2.5 goals
In Ross County’s last five matches there have been thirty-three goals and no that isn’t a typo. 33 GOALS IN 5 MATCHES;
Ross County 0-3 Hibernian
Ross County 8-0 Queen of the South
Cove Rangers 0-2 Ross County
Clachnacuddin 1-5 Ross County
Ross County 14-0 Hearts B
They have scored twenty-nine goals in their last five and currently average 3.14 goals per match in League One whilst only conceding four goals in seven.
Alloa started the season well but have lost their last two and wouldn’t have wanted the league leaders in their next game. The Wasps will also be without one of their star performers so far in Kyle Glasgow who is away on international duty with Scotland U21s.
With this being in Dingwall, Ross County scoring for fun and Alloa’s recent struggles, I do fancy the home win but I think these odds for over 2.5 goals are just too good!
East Fife vs East Kilbride - East Kilbride to win
This could be a really interesting game, despite sitting in seventh place, East Fife have a really interesting stat this season. They are the only team that Ross County and Hamilton haven’t been able to beat so far!
Not only that, they are the only team to stop Hamilton from scoring and the only team that has scored more than once against Ross County in the league, yet they still sit in seventh having only won once, losing twice and drawing five of their opening eight matches.
As much as East Kilbride stuttered to three defeats in a row after a strong start, they provided what many people expected, entertainment and goals. In their eight matches so far there have been 26 goals, yes, TWENTY-SIX!
During their three game losing streak they got battered 3-0 by Montrose (who have now won five in a row and sit above them), 4-0 to table-topping Ross County and 1-0 against Hamilton who all now happen to form the top three. It was a tough run and since then they have won two in a row getting themselves back up to fourth in the table.
Despite the positive of being the team the top two can’t beat, Dick Campbell’s side haven’t won since the second league game of the season. They did have an impressive 4-1 victory against Motherwell B in the Challenge Cup but followed that up with defeats to Montrose and a 2-0 home loss to Clydebank.
They struggle to score goals and can’t buy a league win just now, I think with the form East Kilbride are on, they’ll come away with the win here.
Elgin City vs Clyde - Both teams to score
Clyde are flying high at the top of the table and haven’t lost since the second game of the season. After a strong start and being unbeaten after five matches, Elgin have lost their last three which included a 5-1 hammering against second place Stranraer.
Despite only having scored two in the last three matches, Elgin are still the joint top scorers in the league with nineteen goals in eight matches. They have hit a slump but it’s not one that I expect to last, particularly with how they started the season.
Clyde’s form shows no sign of slowing down and they have the joint second best defensive record in the league alongside being one of the FOUR teams on nineteen goals!
If Clyde were at home, I’d fancy them for the win but I think this should be a tight game and Borough Briggs is a tough place to go. I can see this being a narrow win for either side but do expect both to score!
