World Cup Group G Predictions & Betting Tips

Group G is the kind of draw Belgium would have gladly accepted. Rudi Garcia's side open against Egypt in what is one of the standout group-stage fixtures, with Mohamed Salah's Egypt providing the most credible challenge in a group also containing Iran and New Zealand.
By average ranking this is one of the easier groups in the tournament, and Belgium should be heavy favourites to win it.
That said, Egypt have a strong squad on paper and Iran are perennially difficult to break down. New Zealand are the weakest side and likely to finish bottom, but the format means even they have a theoretical route through if results align.

Group G Teams & Form
Belgium
Belgium come into the tournament under Rudi Garcia, who replaced Domenico Tedesco and immediately brought Thibaut Courtois back into the fold. Qualification was comfortable with several big wins along the way.
The squad is in transition - Kevin De Bruyne is in the latter stage of his international career - but Jeremy Doku, Romelu Lukaku, Youri Tielemans and Amadou Onana give Belgium a competitive XI.
This is not the golden generation Belgium of 2018, but it is a side capable of going deep against anyone outside the top tier. The group is a kind one and they should win it.
Egypt
Egypt qualified comfortably from CAF and arrive with Mohamed Salah still leading the line. Hossam Hassan has settled the squad and Egypt have a clearer identity than they did under their previous regime.
The supporting cast around Salah includes Mostafa Mohamed, Trezeguet and Mohamed Elneny, but the side remains heavily Salah-dependent. If he is fit and motivated, Egypt are dangerous.
Iran
Amir Ghalenoei's Iran qualified from AFC and bring their typical defensive structure to the tournament. Mehdi Taremi continues to lead the attack, with experienced players like Sardar Azmoun also in the squad.
Iran have not advanced from a World Cup group stage since their first appearance, but they are stubborn and tactically disciplined.
New Zealand
Darren Bazeley's New Zealand qualified from Oceania, the weakest confederation in international football. Chris Wood is the key player and his Premier League goalscoring form gives them a focal point.
The All Whites have not won a World Cup match in their history, and that is unlikely to change here. They will be heavy underdogs in every fixture.
Group G Predictions
Belgium should win the group with seven or more points. The opener against Egypt could be a tight match - Salah is the kind of player who can settle these games on his own - but the Belgians have the squad depth to manage the tournament across three matches.
Egypt look the most likely to qualify in second, with Iran taking third. New Zealand are the team most likely to finish bottom and fail to progress.
The format means three of the four sides are likely to advance, but New Zealand's lack of competitive matches against top-tier opposition makes them the obvious team to back against in the qualification markets.
Group G Betting Tips
Find more analysis on every fixture in our World Cup 2026 tips hub as the tournament approaches, but here are three top prices and pre-tournament tips to use with our free bets.
Tip 1: Belgium to Win Group G
Belgium are clear favourites and the price reflects that, but the squad still has enough quality to make this almost a procession. Rudi Garcia has settled the side, Courtois is back in goal, and the attacking options are deep enough to manage rotation across three matches.
If Belgium look the strongest side on day one, they have the schedule to grow into the group. This is the safest tip on the entire group stage board for backing as a single.
Tip 2: Egypt to Qualify From Group G
Egypt have the firepower (and the Salah factor) to beat Iran and New Zealand. Even a defeat to Belgium would still leave them well placed for a top-three finish. The qualification price on Egypt is shorter than the group winner price but offers genuine confidence given the format.
Salah is the key. If he is fit and starting, Egypt are a very different side. Worth checking late injury news before placing the bet.
Tip 3: Bet Builder - Belgium to Win Group G, Egypt to Qualify, Iran Not to Qualify
This bet builder backs the two strongest sides in the group to deliver on their billing. Belgium topping the group and Egypt qualifying in the top three is the most logical reading of the group, and combining them produces a more rewarding price than backing either as a single.
The legs do not contradict each other and both have realistic paths to the outcomes. If you want a third leg, I think we're looking at one of the groups in which no team in third place qualifies for the knockouts, so with Iran at the slightly longer price to exit, adding them on brings good value.
Market Outlook
Belgium are heavy favourites to win Group G with Egypt priced as the closest challenger.
Iran and New Zealand are mid-market and outsider respectively, with the Kiwis the longest-priced side to top any group in the tournament.
Belgium are short to qualify in the top three, while Egypt's qualification price still offers value.
