Run annually at Ascot, it typically features horses that are potential contenders for the Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.

Seven horses have won both races in the same season - Viking Flagship in 1994, Call Equiname in 1999, Master Minded in 2009, Sprinter Sacre in 2013, Sire De Grugy in 2014, Dodging Bullets in 2015, and Altior in 2019.

Nicky Henderson has trained the winner of the race on six occasions, most recently with Shishkin in 2022, and he could be represented this year by the exciting Jonbon.

What Happened Last Year?

Due to frost, the 2023 Clarence House Chase was moved to Cheltenham the following weekend, and the Gary Moore-trained Editeur Du Gite landed a thrilling victory.

Sent off at 14/1, Editeur Du Gite made all off the running and looked to be tiring up the Cheltenham hill after the last, with Edwardstone grabbing a narrow advantage before jockey Niall Houlihan and Editeur Du Gite dug deep and retook the lead in the final strides.

This year’s Clarence House Chase is scheduled to be run at Ascot on Saturday, January 20.
