Celtic travel to Rotterdam for 17:45 kick-off on Thursday in what should be a tough fixture. Both sides have struggled so far and Celtic sit in 27th whilst Feyenoord sit 29th with four and three points respectively. Both lost last time out when Celtic travelled to Denmark and lost, relatively easily, 3-1 to Midjtylland and Feyenoord travelled to Stuttgart and lost 2-0.
Neither side has a particularly good weekend, performance wise, domestically either. Celtic were poor against St. Mirren but managed to come away with a 1-0 win due to a Callum McGregor screamer!
Feyenoord were poor but, unlike Celtic, couldn’t scrape the win and lost 4-2 to Eredivisie surprise package NEC in a 4-2 home defeat. If either side wants to get out of the group stage then they really need to win this game, so it could be a cracker!

Tip 1: Feyenoord to score in both goals
Celtic have looked really shaky defensively this season and have struggled in the first half of games. Robin van Persie’s side have scored 33 goals in thirteen matches so far this season and create plenty of chances every match. Domestically they’re averaging 6.8 shots on target per match whilst creating 50 big chances and the highest xG league at 31.2 which is almost four more than league leaders PSV.
They have goals in them, Celtic don’t look good defensively and whilst playing at home, I think Feyenoord will put a few goals beyond Kasper Schmeichel.
Tip 2: Daizen Maeda or Ayase Ueda to score - Bet365 - 1/1
Ayase Ueda has had an incredible start to the season and has scored thirteen goals in thirteen Eredivisie games. That already tops his total from last season when he only scored seven goals in twenty-one domestic matches.
Daizen Maeda hasn’t started this season as well as he ended the last one but still has three goals and two assists in ten Scottish Premiership appearances. Last season he scored 33 goals in 51 matches and was one of Celtic’s best players which got him linked to a move anyway.
Both Japanese internationals will be the main goalscoring threats for their sides and I’d be genuinely surprised if neither got on the scoresheet.
Tip 3: Liam Scales to be shown a card & Ayase Ueda to have 2+ on target
This bet goes hand in hand as I suspect that Ueda will give Celtic a very tough evening and Scales may come particularly under fire. The Irishman is prone to a mistake and can be quite rash in his decision making. I think he may try and assert his dominance but may struggle to get the better of the Japanese international.
He’s currently averaging 2.10 shots on target per90 in the league and despite only averaging 0.69 in the Europa League so far, I think he can bring his Eredivisie form to this game.
As previously mentioned, Ueda has been in incredible form this season and with the defensive frailty that Celtic have shown, he can take advantage of that and help Feyenoord to a victory.
