Dundee vs Motherwell - Motherwell to win

It’s really hard not to wax lyrical about Motherwell when you’re talking about their recent performances in the Scottish Premiership. They sit  top of the Premiership over the last five matches with four wins and one draw, with that being a 1-1 against Rangers at Fir Park.

In those other four matches, Jens Berthel Askou’s side have scored eleven and conceded zero, that’s right, a plus eleven goal difference over the last five, unbelievable! Only conceding eighteen goals the entire season so far is incredible and winning this game would take them just one point behind Rangers in third place.

Dundee, on the other hand, are doing better than many expected and a win in this one would take them above Aberdeen into eight and just two points behind rivals Dundee United in seventh. They are unbeaten in their last three which includes a spectacular 3-3 draw against Hibs last time out. They almost threw that game away, going 3-2 down on the 89th minute after being 2-1 up on the 80 minute mark.

A cracker from Cameron Congreve saved them though in a game that they probably would have accepted a draw before the first whistle.

There’s so much on the line for Motherwell in this one, a win here and I genuinely think they should be included in title race conversations. With Tawanda Maswanhise’s form and their defensive record, I think they’ll come away with a comfortable victory at Dens Park.

Arbroath vs Ross County - Arbroath to win

Ross County are in big trouble despite the amount of money they have spent and the size of their squad. Many, myself included, had them down as title favourites for this season with the Premiership experience they brought in this summer.

However, it just hasn’t worked out for them this season and they currently sit bottom of the league and are on their third manager of the season after Don Cowie and Tony Docherty were sacked.

Arbroath have surprised many this season, sitting in the promotion play-off spots after just being promoted this season. They have only won once in their last five but have had two impressive draws against second placed Partick and fellow play-off promotion contenders Ayr United in the last two.

County have the worst defensive record in the league and the worst goal difference whilst scoring the second least amount of goals. They have the worst away record in the league whilst Arbroath have only lost once at home this season.

I’d expect a boring game but one the home side should win.

Dunfermline vs Aberdeen - Both teams to score

Dunfermline have a great chance at making it to the Semi-Final, especially after winning their last two league games without conceding any goals. This has seen them jump back up to fourth in the Championship, albeit Ayr United have a game in hand.

A couple of rounds ago they put out Hibs with an incredibly impressive performance at East End Park in which the victory was sealed by a late OG. In the last round they had a much more comfortable tie against Kelty Hearts where they progressed with a 2-0 win.

Aberdeen’s victory in the last round was a controversial one as they beat Motherwell 2-0, in a game that had three red cards but the Dons had most of the attacking play, as Motherwell faltered in another cup game.

Aberdeen haven’t been great defensively but will cause Dunfermline problems going forward, especially with the form that former Pars striker Kevin Nisbet is in. I think Neil Lennon’s team will have belief that they can win this game, particularly at home and after defeating Hibs two rounds prior.

This is definitely a potential banana skin for Aberdeen and I think it will be a close-run game.

Morton vs St Johnstone - St Johnstone to win

St. Johnstone have been dropping some points in recent weeks but are still managing to avoid defeat, winning twice and drawing three of their last five. Their performances haven’t been great, particularly going forward but Morton have had some bad defeats in the last two.

They have lost to two of the bottom three, losing 3-2 away at Queen’s Park before going to Airdrie and losing 3-1 last weekend. They had been on a decent run before that but those defeats will definitely have knocked their confidence.

St. Johnstone’s lead at the top has been cut to five points but with Partick still in the Scottish Cup, victory here would take them eight points clear and put pressure on Mark Wilson’s side.

St. Johnstone have only lost twice away from home all season and I don’t think they’ll add to that this weekend.
