Monaco Grand Prix Preview & Betting Tips (Sunday, 26th May)
Itโs far from popular with teams and drivers, but Formula 1 still considers the Monaco Grand Prix the jewel in the sportโs crown. The tight and twisty circuit, where overtaking is near impossible, should produce its share of shock results. But the history books show it is 15 years since a car other than a Red Bull or Mercedes have won this race.

The Predictable Is Not Predicted in Monaco GP
Most team bosses declare this is a race that is โwonโ during Saturday qualifying. However, four of the past ten Monaco Grand Prix have not gone to the poll-setter. And then there is the myth that a Safety Car appearance is an inevitability. It is not. Three of the past five races in the tiny principality did not need the pace car.
So, what will happen this weekend? Nothing is certain โ and Red Bull or Mercedes are far from certain to continue their dominance of this race โ but getting the value is what all punting is about and there is plenty of value on offer this weekend.
Safety in Numbers
Our collated Monaco Grand Prix results show no Safety Car has been needed for this race six times in the past two decades. The introduction of the Virtual Safety car can only lessen its likelihood of being called into play and that is borne out by recent editions of this contest โ where it is just two-from-five.
The โNo Safety Carโ scenario can be backed at 4/1 Paddy Power and Betfair and those are standout odds.
Similarly, four of the last five Monaco GP have had just a single retirement. With cloudless skies forecast and 2024s car proving mechanically hyper-reliable, there is no reason for this trend to be bucked.
17.5-plus classified race finishers is viable and great value at the even-money odds offered bet365 who always provide the widest range of F1 betting odds on the market.
Every Second Counts
15 successive Monaco Grand Prix were won by less than 10 seconds ahead of last year when Max Verstappen blitzed the field to score by 27 seconds. The Dutchman only scrambled home last time in Monza, and with McLaren and Ferrari getting ever closer to the drinks manufacturing team, the days of such dominant displays are drawing to a close โ and they may be over.
A winning margin of under 5 seconds is available on 13/8 and we believe that outweighs the true probability of the outcome.
A Piastri Podium is Overdue and Due
Hauling his McLaren to a win and two seconds in his last three starts, Lando Norris is the sportโs current golden boy. But his less experienced teammate, Oscar Paistri, has had a lot of bad luck and his talent suggests he is owed a big result.
The Australian has claimed podium finishes at the Monaco venue in lower divisions of motorsport in the past and he is 33/20 (Ladbrokes and Coral) to earn some more silverware on Sunday. This too looks an over-priced proposition considering his car will enjoy the high-downforce nature of the Monaco circuit.
