Charlie heads to Plumpton on Monday for his best bet
It's a busy day of racing action in the UK and Ireland, and Charlie McCann is here with his exclusive free horse racing tips - only at FreeBets.
2:53pm Pontefract - Undiscovered
Owen Burrows did not have a runner on Champions Day, which would have been a bit of a disappointment, but four of the yard's last nine runners have been winners, and I thought King High ran a terrific race when second in the Haynes, Hanson & Clark at Newbury in a race that lowered the juvenile track record.
He has only raced on fast ground, however, and do note conditions were described as good to soft (soft in places) on Sunday morning with further showers – up to 3mm – forecast during racing. As a son of Kingman, he is always likely to be at his best on a sound surface.
UNDISCOVERED was only beaten a couple of lengths in the 7f Group 3 Tattersalls Stakes at Newmarket last month, having been constantly denied a clear run. This listed contest represents a drop in grade and the step up to a mile should suit this inexpensive son of New Bay.
The selection has yet to race beyond seven furlongs, and he disappointed on his penultimate start, but he has won on soft ground – albeit over six furlongs – in the past and certainly gave the impression at Newmarket that he would appreciate another furlong.
Recommendation: Undiscovered - 9/2 with bet365
At Plumpton I backed but did not recommend Palamon last week back on a sound surface after running a terrific race on ground much softer than ideal at Worcester.
He is likely to be a short price to follow up under a 7lbs penalty and will have the race run to suit, with A Little Something likely to ensure a decent gallop.
2:30pm Plumpton - Gone Country (Nap)
Market House did us a favour when scoring over the minimum trip here back in the spring when he gave every indication that he would appreciate a step up in distance. He has been kept on the go on the flat over the summer, running well in defeat, and looks the one to beat despite the steadier of 12st with Sean Bowen in the saddle.
The race is named in honour of the leading jockey/trainer Josh Gifford, and his son Nick saddles a couple of the runners, course specialist Eliza Dolittle and GONE COUNTRY (Nap), with preference for the latter.
The diminutive mare Eliza Dolittle is a three-time course and distance winner, all under regular partner Tabitha Worsley, but her success here back in February came from a 4lbs lower mark and when her jockey was still claiming a valuable three pounds.
Gone Country is two years younger than her stablemate and appreciated the step up in trip when scoring over 2m5f+ at Fontwell when last seen back in May from a 4lbs lower mark. James Davies is unavailable, so Tom Cannon takes over for the first time on the six-year-old, who receives a stone from Market House and could be open to further improvement. One would imagine Nick would have his runners ready for, as far as I can see, the first running of the race in his father's honour.
Recommendation: Gone Country (Nap) - 2/1 with bet365

4:30pm Plumpton - Latin
LATIN is a six-time flat winner – five on the all-weather – who ran his best race yet over hurdles in a conditional jockeys' event at Market Rasen last time when second from a 1lb lower mark.
Sean Bowen returns to the plate, and the pair caught the attention of the stewards at Uttoxeter on his penultimate start when weak in the market and never placed to challenge. He is well handicapped on his flat form and will be difficult to beat if he can build on his last start, although he can be a tad keen and, although he does stay 10f on the level, stamina has been an issue even over the minimum distance over timber.
Bohemian Breeze won twice on the flat at Brighton over ten furlongs this summer, and the Moore yard have engaged the 7lbs claiming amateur Cian Murphy. The stable's representatives are always much respected at the track, and an application of cash would be noteworthy.
Recommendation: Latin - 5/6 with bet365
