Charlie McCann's Horse Racing Tips Tuesday, 20 October - Yarmouth & Hexham
Charlie heads to Yarmouth on Tuesday for his best bet

It's a busy day of racing action in the UK and Ireland, and Charlie McCann is here with his exclusive free horse racing tips - only at FreeBets.

2:53pm Yarmouth - Lady Magu (Nap)
The 12f fillies’ handicap is a cracker and I thought the Alan King trained Deedaydiva – a 7f soft ground juvenile winner – was sure to run a big race after a big run at Kempton (1m3f) last time although I wonder whether this step up in trip is what she needs. She would have got the vote over ten furlongs.
George Boughey saddles a couple and top-weight Queen Of Scotland has won her last couple including when impressing at Kempton last time giving weight away in a Novice. She makes her handicap debut from a mark of eighty-seven and is the choice of stable jockey Billy Loughnane.
Ross Coakley takes over on another hat-trick seeker LADY MAGU, and she gets the verdict for Roger Varian in receipt of 4lbs from Queen Of Scotland. A winner of a 10f Ffos Las maiden on soft ground back in June, the filly improved for the step up to a mail-and-a-half when coming from last to first in the short home straight at Wolverhampton last time.
The handicapper has raised the filly 8lbs for that win at Dunstall Park, but she is clearly improving fast, stays well and will go on ground described as soft on Monday morning after 10mm of rain up to 8.30am.
Ray Dawson was in the plate at Wolverhampton and, having ridden in Australia at the weekend, was due to take a sole ride at Pontefract on Monday. I presume he is suspended as he is not jocked up on anything else in the short term.
Recommendation: Lady Magu (Nap) at 5/2
This is Charlie's Nap of the Day selection - see how it stacks up against Alan Kelly's pick too.
Good ground at Hexham and a disappointing field of just three runners for the valuable Beginners Chase over 2m4f. The likes of Nicky Henderson will be moaning there are no opportunities for his novice chasers soon, yet there is nearly £16,000 on offer on good ground at a track where they have had 34mm of rainfall so far this month.
Just how expensive is diesel? Both Royal Infantry and Jeriko Du Reponet – beaten favourite in the Kim Muir back in March when trained by Henderson - have disappointed over the larger obstacles although this trip will suit the Skelton horse more.
4:50pm Hexham - Luminaries and Lights Are Green
I was kicking myself for not backing or recommending LUMINARIES when he hosed up over hurdles over 3m at Southwell last week from a 4lbs lower mark. That was over hurdles – or their mini-fences – and he is yet to win over fences, but he did finish third this time last year in a better race than todays from a 10lbs higher mark last October.
Indeed, he ran very well over the larger obstacles until his stamina gave way over 3m2f+ at Sedgefield from a mark of ninety-five twelve months ago, and he looks sure to run a big race from a rating of eighty this afternoon. He was given a tremendous ride at Southwell – saving ground down the inside throughout – but he has won from a stone higher mark over hurdles. He ran poorly on his sole previous start over timber and does NOT want the ground to deteriorate from good ground.
Stay Hopeful will likely start market leader but I am also going to support LIGHTS ARE GREEN who ran well when behind Stay Hopeful over C&D last time and is 10lbs better off for the 11l he was behind the winner here earlier in the month.
The selection is a C&D winner and is 11lbs below his last winning mark although that was over two years ago. He has been in the doldrums for some time now – hence his falling handicap mark – but there have been shoots of a potential recovery in his recent starts. Good ground suits but he has won on good to soft in the past.
Recommendation: Luminaries at 5/2 and Lights Are Green at 9/1

Horse racing has long been Charlie's passion - ironic, really, as he'll never pass the vet again, as sports injuries have come back to bite - with a specialism in handicap chases over jumps and 1m+ handicaps on the level.
