It's a busy day of racing action in the UK and Ireland, and Charlie McCann is here with his exclusive free horse racing tips - only at FreeBets.
1:50pm Newmarket - Summerson (Each-Way)
David Meniuisier broke his recent dry spell when Tribal Chief scored at Goodwood midweek, and he could do with another winner or two to pay for his wedding tomorrow. His Inis Mor – placed in both the French and Irish Oaks – heads the market for the Group 3 Princess Royal Stakes and she looks the one to beat.
The filly was all at sea on the slow ground in the Yorkshire Oaks last time, but that was in Group 1 company, and she will appreciate this drop in class. With the stable back in form, she is the one to beat with Ryan Moore taking over in the plate for the first time.
Prizeland failed to stay 1m6f in the Group 2 Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster a fortnight ago and will relish this drop back to a mile-and-a-half, having run away with the Sir Henry Cecil Galtres Stakes at York last month on her penultimate start.
I am writing this prior to Thursday's card at Newmarket, and I don't know how fast conditions are going to be on the Rowley Mile. If I feel there is a bit of cut in the ground, I will save on Prizeland but, granted fast ground, I am going to throw a few quid on SUMMERSON (Each-Way) for Roger Varian.
The form book tells us that Summerson has more than 8l to make up with Prizeland on York running last time, but jockey Ray Dawson missed the break and/or was slowly away from his wide draw and took his medicine tucking in at the back of the field, and she must have been 10l behind the rest of the field after two furlongs.
Roger Varian's filly made his ground up smoothly from the rear, but her run petered out on the good to soft ground, and she finished fourth. She has a much better draw this afternoon and I will be disappointed if she doesn't run a big race, although she does have plenty to find with the more fancied three-year-olds. She still holds an entry in the Group 1 Fillies & Mares on Champions Day.
Recommendation: Summerson (Each-Way) - 7/1 with bet365 (4 places)
4:18pm Haydock - Anyasi
Despite the worst of the draw in stall eleven – of 11 – ANYASI is another Roger Varian-trained selection in what could be a big day for the yard, given they have Kokbastau – Evens – in the four-runner listed Godolphin Stakes at Newmarket.
The selection was a winner on soft ground on his racecourse debut and was taken off his feet over 6f on fast ground at Thirsk on his belated seasonal reappearance. He steps up to 7f for the first time today, and the likely good to soft ground should suit. Note he was taken out of a race at Newbury last weekend on account of the fast ground.
Callum Rodriguez takes over in the saddle, with stable jockey Ray Dawson at Newmarket, and the hope is that the field comes down the centre of the track thus negating his high draw.
Mr Noble and Spaceman are two other three-year-olds with obvious chances, although one could argue that in both cases, their very best form is on the all-weather. The chief threat, however, may come from dual course and distance winner Ata Rangi, who is only 1lb higher than when successful here back in the spring under today's talented apprentice.
Recommendation: Anyasi - 6/1 with Ladbrokes
2:05pm Worcester - Palamon (Each-Way) (Nap)
I think the odds compilers have got this right and Merely A Detail is a worthy market leader in the valuable 2m4f handicap chase having been a revelation in her two chase starts, winning here over the minimum distance before improving again when stepped up to 2m2f at Fontwell last time.
The mare has been raised 13lbs for those two fluent successes, and she looks sure to run a big race as she bids to protect her unbeaten record over fences. But does she stay two-and-a-half miles? She has only raced at the trip once previously, when she palpably failed to get home over hurdles at Fakenham, which is hardly the stiffest of tracks.
She must prove her stamina, and preference is for PALAMON (Each-Way) (Nap) back down to his optimum trip, having been campaigned over 3m – too far – on his penultimate start and 2m1f+ - too short – on his last couple of runs. His shrewd connections have likely had this race in mind for some time, and they have done extremely well to get the selection's rating down to a mark just 4lbs higher than when part of a well-executed four-horse coup at Bangor and Newcastle for the Skelton yard at the end of March.
I have been disappointed with Country Park in his last couple of starts, having done us a favour at Bangor back in June. The O'Neill yard are in excellent form at present, however, and this inmate has every chance in an ultra-competitive heat befitting of the excellent prize money.
Recommendation: Palamon (Each-Way) (Nap) - 5/1 with William Hill (4 places)
