2:40pm York - Florida Dreams (Each-Way)

High Fibre is closely matched with stablemate Percy Shelley on Newmarket, running last time out with the latter 3lbs better off for the length and a quarter he was behind at the line. I expect to see High Fibre confirm the placings but, in this much stronger race, I am going to take a chance on FLORIDA DREAMS (Each-Way) despite the fact that he failed to enter the stalls at Musselburgh last month.

The former Aintree Bumper winner has not yet fulfilled that initial promise over timber, but he could have been let in lightly on his handicap debut, stepped up to what looks a more suitable trip than the maidens he ran in to get this mark (70) in the summer.

Sandy Thompson fits the eight-year-old with a hood and cheekpieces for the first time and has booked Mikey Sheehy. There are no prices available at the time of writing, but do note the selection was well supported overnight at Musselburgh. This is an ultra-competitive 2m handicap, but if there is one horse who could be well ahead of his mark, it is Florida Dreams, who is rated fifty-five pounds higher over hurdles than his flat mark.

Recommendation: Florida Dreams (Each-Way) - 7/1 with bet365 (4 places)

3:50pm York - Double Rush

America Queen did us a favour when romping home in a fillies' listed race three weeks ago, and she is favourite in the listed Garrowby Stakes despite carrying a 3lbs penalty in a much stronger race against the boys.

The three-year-old has run two good races in defeat on the Knavesmire – second in the Lowther last year – and a low draw –drawn in one - has generally been an advantage on the straight track this season. She must go close, but marginal preference is for DOUBLE RUSH who, seemingly, had his limitations exposed in the Group 1 July Cup last time although I didn't think he liked the July course hanging left under pressure.

The selection drops in grade to listed company, and the Wokingham winner receives weight from a couple of promising three-year-olds, Behike and Dickensian, who – like America Queen – carry a 3lbs penalty for their previous listed successes. The strong travelling Behike dotted up at Deauville last time, but how good is the form?

Double Rush won three handicaps before losing his unbeaten record for Andrew Balding in the July Cup, and Shane Foley returns to the plate having been in the saddle at both Ascot and Newmarket earlier in the season. When I started writing the copy, the selection was 4/1, but he was well supported and is a best price of 10/3 when I finished.

Recommendation: Double Rush - 10/3 with bet365

4:05pm Fontwell - So Proud (Nap)

The form of No More Bolero's close second at Market Rasen last time was given a boost when the winner – Ballynoe Boy – comfortably scored at Bangor on Friday from a 5lbs higher mark, and the James Owen-trained seven-year-old is the one to beat having won his two previous starts. He has only been raised 11lbs for those three runs, and he is clearly thriving at present with Harry Cobden – who has been in the saddle for all three career wins over hurdles – keeping the ride.

I am going to take a chance, however, on the handicap debutant SO PROUD (Nap) who, significantly, steps up in distance for his handicap debut for Jonjo & AJ O'Neill. The selection won a Haydock Bumper on debut and ran his best race yet over hurdles when third – beaten 2l – at Worcester last time over the minimum trip.

The five-year-old has been off the track since the end of May, and it is possible that he will need the pouting, but I liked the way he stayed on all the way to the line at Worcester, giving every impression that he would relish the additional three furlongs today.

At the time of writing, he holds an entry at Bangor on Tuesday, and he looks fairly treated on handicap debut if you believe, as I do, that this step up in distance will suit. His Bumper win came on good ground, and conditions were described as good on Saturday morning with a dry forecast.

Recommendation: So Proud (Nap) - 4/1 with Ladbrokes
