1:55pm Haydock - First Law

FIRST LAW won the same Sandown maiden on debut that his sire Too Darn Hot had in 2018. The latter went on to be champion two-year-old, winning all four starts as a juvenile, culminating in the Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket.

First Law holds an entry in the Dewhurst and the hope is that he can land the listed Ascendant Stakes - won by the brilliant unbeaten but now retired Bow Echo twelve months ago - en route to Newmarket, although this will be much slower ground than the good to firm conditions he encountered at the Esher track.

The second at Sandown - Flight Tracker - looked an unlucky loser on a return visit to the Esher track when second in a valuable maiden last weekend, and First Law's pedigree suggests he should enjoy underfoot conditions.

Recommendation: First Law - 11/10 with William Hill

2:10pm Ascot - Heyzoom (Nap)

Cape Fear did us a favour when scoring at Windsor last time, but an 8lbs rise looks harsh given it was a moderate three-year-old contest and it is hard to get away from the lightly raced Royal Ascot fourth, HEYZOOM (Nap).

Owen Burrows gelded his lightly raced son of Dubawi since his last start in the King George V handicap, and the form could hardly be working out any better, with the first three all subsequent winners - two in Pattern company.

The selection has been raised 5lbs since his last start, but he remains open to further improvement after just four career starts and his gelding procedure. He holds no fancy entries, but he remains an exciting prospect.

Recommendation: Heyzoom (Nap) - 11/8 with BetVictor

This is Charlie's Nap of the Day selection - see how it stacks up against Alan Kelly's pick too.

2:50pm Kempton - Tornado Alert

Former champion hurdler Constitution Hill is back after his long summer break, having won two all-weather races at Southwell (impressive) and Kempton (workmanlike) at the beginning of the year.

They ought to have run at Windsor last weekend when the soft ground would have been ideal. Connections appear to be playing down his chances and, after dismissing the Melbourne Cup as an option back in the spring, I got the impression Messrs Henderson and Buckley fancy a bit of Aussie Red in November.

Gethin was impressive here in listed company over 10f back in the spring, and connections still have one eye on the Arc next month. I was disappointed with his run in the Coral Eclipse last time, but he is a worthy favourite although there are slight stamina concerns.

The vote goes to TORNADO ALERT, who was off the track for over twelve months prior to finishing fourth in the Group 1 Grosser Preis von Berlin over 12f last month. They ought to four-year-old travelled well for much of the race, but a lack of race fitness appeared to take its toll inside the final furlong, and he faded into fourth, beaten just a length.

He was a bit keen in Germany, and the hope is that he is more amenable to restraint today. Some of the excellent tipsters in the Racing Post dismissed the effects of the draw in a recent article, which is complete and utter bollocks.

I am more than concerned with the selection's draw out on the wing in stall seven, and the hope is that Oisin Murphy - who rode Constitution Hill on flat debut - can get across from his wide draw into a decent position as they take the first right-hand bend without having to do too much too soon.

Recommendation: Tornado Alert - 5/2 with bet365

4:30pm Kempton - Sudu (Each-Way)

I never thought Primo Lara got a mile-and-a-half and was surprised when he won over the trip at Ascot on his penultimate start. He then reverted to type when looking a non-stayer at York last time, although this sharp track should suit. He has won on the all-weather previously – tapeta – and is well drawn in stall three.

SUDU (Each-Way) was well backed on his seasonal debut at Thirsk but was disappointing in a first-time hood, and the aid is dispensed with by Roger Varian, who has booked Rowan Scott with stable jockey Ray Dawson, having a full book of rides at Haydock.

Sudu is 0-2 on the all-weather, but he wasn't beaten far on either occasion over an inadequate trip. He is entitled to come on since Thirsk – his first start in over a year and has been dropped 2lbs since.

Recommendation: Sudu (Each-Way) - 10/1 with bet365 (3 places)
