Charlie McCann’s Horse Racing Tips For Tuesday, 12 May, At Beverley & Bath

4:35pm Beverley - Donna Nook
DONNA NOOK has only won one of her nineteen starts and has yet to win on turf (0 from 9), but she was rated eighty-eight for Ger Lyons this time last year and has now dropped to a mark of seventy for David O'Meara.
The filly returned from a three-month break when third at Southwell last month and went one place better when runner-up at Ayr last week, although I appreciate it was a blanket finish. The filly is likely to be nudged up a pound or two this morning when reassessed, potentially out of this 0-70 grade, and she is well drawn for one who likes to race prominently.
Danny Tudhope was in the plate last week and has a record on the filly of 2-3-2. O'Meara switches headgear today with a visor replacing the cheekpieces she wore at Southwell, and Tudhope is likely to go hard from the front. She might be hanging on inside the final half furlong, but she has run well over 9.5 and ten furlongs in the past, and this 8.5f trip looks her optimum. This looks like a good opportunity to break her maiden tag on turf.
Coolree did well to get to the lead when making most from stall fourteen here last week, and he carries a 4lbs penalty for that success. He and the other last time out course and distance winner, Tees George, are huge threats, with the latter only 4lbs higher than when scoring here from a 4lbs lower mark last month.
Tees George has never won from a mark in the sixties in the past, but Jack Nicholls takes off a valuable 5lbs and he is another in-form threat.

3:50pm Bath - Electric Bass (Nap)
Hibernate beat ELECTRIC BASS (Nap) a neck over 10f at Chepstow back in July, but the latter is taken to reverse the form over this extra yardage on 2lb better terms.
Hibernate made all at Yarmouth over nine furlongs last time from a 4lbs lower mark, although you could argue that he is 9lbs higher given the talented 5lbs apprentice Mason Paetel was in the plate last month. Rossa Ryan takes over in the plate, but I backed Hibernate under the excellent Ryan at Leicester over this trip on his penultimate start – only 3lbs higher today – and thought he didn't quite get home.
This 11.5f trip might just stretch his stamina, and Electric Bass is taken to break his maiden tag at the thirteenth time of asking and is my Nap of the Day selection. There will be many who think any horse who has finished runner-up in five of his twelve starts is one to avoid, and that is a fair comment, but he ran a terrific race returning from a four-month break at Southwell over 12f last month, and he has been beaten less than a length in three of his four turf starts. He deserves to get his head in front.
