2:20pm Nottingham - Adamlyi

William Haggas has his string in excellent shape, and ADAMLYI is taken to make it third time lucky, having finished second at Yarmouth – beaten favourite – on his reappearance, going down by a head to Euston Hall. The latter won a valuable Newbury handicap off a mark of eighty on Saturday, and the grey son of Kingman only has to run up to the same mark as Yarmouth to go one better.

The selection is bred to be smart and receives a stone from the unbeaten Runman - a half-brother of Group 2 winner Running Lion – who scored at Salisbury on his sole juvenile start, before landing the odds (1/12) at Epsom last month on his reappearance.

The beautifully bred Moreedd – half-brother to the 1000 Guineas winner Elmalka - was backed as if defeat was out of the question at Doncaster over 7f on debut but failed to sparkle. He is entitled to come on for the run, the additional furlong will suit, and a market move would be worth noting.

Recommendation: Adamlyi - 6/4 with bet365

2:50pm Nottingham - Bay Royale (Nap)

Cloud Forest is not bred 10f – sprint bred -, but Saeed bin Suroor would not have booked Oisin Murphy for the four-year-old's racecourse debut if he did not think he had ability and stamina. He was entered at Southwell over a mile on Thursday, which suggests connections are unsure what his optimum trip will be, and he will do well to give weight to BAY ROYALE (Nap).

The Harry Eustace-trained three-year-old went into my notebook when scoring over course and distance last month and still holds an entry in the Irish Derby at the end of June. That looks fanciful, but I was impressed with his course and distance win, the second has since again finished runner-up in a Newbury maiden, while the third – Infraad - won a Pontefract Novice by over six lengths last month.

Knights Charger makes his turf debut, having shown promise over a mile at Kempton on debut before dotting up when stepped up to 10f in a Lingfield maiden three weeks ago. The switch to turf should hold no terrors for this well-bred son of Lucky Vega, and he, like Bar Royale, carries a 7lbs penalty.

I made a note to back Bay Royale next time out after last month's fluent course and distance success and hope to see him take this en route to a crack at a Royal Ascot handicap.

Recommendation: Bay Royale (Nap) - 11/4 with bet365

6:20pm Hexham - Diamond Mix

Conquer The Breeze has been raised 8lbs for his facile 6l win over course and distance earlier in the month when he jumped well in the main on his first start for Adam Nicol, save for a couple of minor mistakes at the fourth and eighth.

The 8lbs rise still leaves him 7lbs lower over fences than his hurdles rating, and trainer Adam Nicol is developing a reputation as someone who can improve horses from other yards. He has the size and scope to be a better chaser than a hurdler, but he is likely to be very short in the betting, given this is a much stronger race than his recent success.

DIAMOND MIX is rated 12lbs higher over fences than hurdles but is a dual course and distance winner, and the form of his latest third at Newcastle is strong 2m chase form at this level. He must give 18lbs to Conquer The Breeze, which will be no easy task, but the dogs were barking the latter's name prior to his recent course and distance success. Note Ryan Mania has been in the saddle for Diamond Mix's last two runs, but he rides Conquer The Breeze this evening.

There are no odds available at the time of writing, but do note that bet365 have advertised they will be 1/5 odds first three on this seven-runner contest (other firms ¼ odds 1,2). I would imagine Conquer The Breeze will be about even, and I will back Diamond Mix each way or in the market without the favourite.

Recommendation: Diamond Mix - 2/1 with bet365
