Charlie heads to Yarmouth on Wednesday for his best bet
It's a busy day of racing action in the UK and Ireland, and Charlie McCann is here with his exclusive free horse racing tips - only at FreeBets.
3:41pm Yarmouth - Rhapsody (Each-Way)
Morrophore beat Sky Safari at Lingfield in the Winter Oaks back in January, and the winner is 2lbs better off this afternoon. Both are, arguably, better on synthetics than they are on turf, but both are well drawn and will have their supporters.
Morrophore was having his first race since when disappointing on ground softer than ideal – good to soft/soft – at York – over twelve furlongs in the Henry Cecil/Galtres Stakes at York last month. She may have found the trip too far on the rain-softened ground and will appreciate the drop back to 10f in the listed John Musker Fillies' Stakes, but the vote goes to the William Haggas-trained RHAPSODY (Each-Way) who finished second – over thirty lengths in front of Morrophore – on the Knavesmire although she had a hard race having travelled very well into the race.
Rhapsody had previously finished runner-up under Ryan Moore – given a moderate ride – in a 10f Group 3 at the Curragh and she is at least as effective over further. The hope is that market leader Fairy Glen – made all to win a 2m Grade 2 at Meydan, beating Cabello De Mar on Dubai World Cup night in the spring – ensures a decent test, and that should suit the selection.
The 4-y-old did have a hard race at York, which tempers confidence, and has been weak in the mark (11/2 from 4/1), but she, too, is well drawn in stall three and gets the each-way vote.
The classic generation has won five of the last ten renewals, but I will be disappointed if a three-year-old is good enough this afternoon. The three-year-old Seet has been the best-backed filly (4/1 from 15/2), but that looks short enough.
Recommendation: Rhapsody (Each-Way) - 11/2 with Skybet (4 places)
4:12pm Yarmouth - Tycoon (Each-Way)
The unbeaten three-year-old Enoch is likely to be all the rage for the 9f+ handicap, having won both starts for John & Thady Gosden, including a visually impressive success at Lingfield (all-weather) when he showed a good turn of foot off a slow pace to win cosily over a mile.
His sole juvenile start was a 7f victory this time last year at Newmarket, and he is bred to be smart. With Will Buick at Sandown, Ryan Moore takes over in the plate, and the extra distance is considered a plus. The classic generation has won three of the four renewals of the corresponding race, but he is likely to be over-bet, although there are no prices available at the time of writing.
It is great to see Savvy Disko back on track after he took a crashing fall when beginning his challenge at Glorious Goodwood last time. Billy Loughnane keeps the ride for Sean Woods, and he had won his two previous starts. I may well save if he is – as at Goodwood last time – a double-figure price.
El Matador is drawn wide but looks sure to run a big race, but this will be the first time that top-weight TYCOON has raced at nine furlongs since he was third at Newmarket back in the spring from a 1lb higher mark. He has been poorly placed by connections this term, and I do think that ten furlongs is his optimum trip, but Toby Moore takes off a valuable 7lbs and the hope is that he gets into a decent early position from his ground-saving draw in stall two.
He has only won one of his twelve career starts when making all over 10f in a Windsor maiden, and I hope they are positive on the four-year-old who gets the each-way vote.
Recommendation: Tycoon (Each-Way) - 9/1 with bet365 (4 places)
4:45pm Yarmouth - Carraway (Nap)
My two against the field in the three-year-old fillies' handicap are Alice De Clare – first past the post in four of her five previous starts – and CARAWAY (Nap), with preference for the latter, who finished second in two runs on successive days at Leicester and Yarmouth when last seen in July.
The William Haggas-trained filly has, surprisingly, been dropped 1lb since she last ran, which suggests the experiment of running her twice within twenty-four hours was not a success, but I well remember her beating Boilermaker at Thirsk back in May when I thought the latter was a good thing. Boilermaker has won his last three – God knows why I didn't recommend him on Sunday at Bath – although I appreciate they were over an additional quarter of a mile. Harry Davies takes over in the plate with Marquand unable to do the weight (8st 6lbs).
Alice De Clare has been raised 3lbs since she was demoted from first place at Goodwood last time (10f) and she may well improve for her first start at a mile-and-a-half. That said, she is by Space Blues, and there must be a slight concern about the suitability of the trip, although this 11.5f trip on a flat track is unlikely to place too much emphasis on stamina.
Recommendation: Carraway (Nap) - 4/1 with bet365
