Chepstow Tips - Welsh National Day Horse Racing
My three tips are in focus below, with latest odds from the best betting sites too, so you can see what prices are currently available on them all.
Chepstow 1:40pm
A potentially hot looking race, and to make life tougher for punters, not too much to go on really in terms of form.
Having said that, Macktoad is the one for me, who came here with a reputation from France, and make a really nice impression on his sole UK start, winning what is usually a decent race at Sandown at the start of the month.
He comes from the Moore yard, who have won two of the last five runnings of this race, so clearly target it with one of their better juveniles.
That run at Sandown, and what his yard have done recently in this race, is enough for me to back him here.
Chepstow 2:10pm
A wide open handicap where you could probably give them all a squeak on some form, and for that reason, I'll go each way with my pick, and that is Keable.
Coming from the Hobbs/White combination, he was a winner last month on reappearance at Newbury, impressive given he was coming back from a nine month break.
I was surprised to see he's only been put up 5lb for that, winning what looks to be a decent race and certainly one of the same standard to this.
Life's tougher under more weight, but at an each way price, he can run his race and go well here.
Chepstow 2:50pm - Welsh Grand National
The last of my horse racing tips is of course in the big race of the day, the Welsh Grand National.
Here I like the chances of O'Connell from the Sue Smith & Joel Parkinson team, and he comes here on the back of landing the London National on his last start.
The yard often needs time to pick up form, and in the last month or so, they've been excellent, landing a few big race wins on TV with their runners.
I'll discount his first run of the season, he will have needed that, and then took the London National by just over three lengths. With weights out for this race before that, he's in here off a 4lb penalty, which puts him well in for me.
It's a small risk that his win in that race was just three weeks ago, but assuming he's fully over that, and ready to go again here, he has the credentials to run a massive race.
