Racing Blogger's Horse Racing Tips - Ascot & Wincanton
We’ve got a couple of small fields this weekend but still some good betting angles, and I’m
focusing on four runners across Ascot and Wincanton, who I think are overpriced for their
chances.
Here are the latest odds from the best betting sites, so you can see what prices are currently available on them all.
1:50pm Ascot – Thomas Mor
In the Grade 2 novice chase there are only four runners, but I’m a big fan of Thomas Mor here. He’s a two-time winner at Ascot, goes right-handed, and soft ground suits him perfectly.
He won a good novice chase at Kempton in November and then finished second to Kitzbuhel in a strong race where the form has worked out well since.
I think he takes care of his rivals and wins this comfortably. He’s my strongest bet of the weekend.
1:35pm Wincanton – Alexei
Another Grade 2 with a small turnout, but I’m very strong on Alexei for Joe Tizard.
He ran a cracking race under top weight in the big Ascot handicap behind Wilful and Hot Fuss, and that form has been boosted since.
With Brendan Powell booked and the yard going well, I expect him to take control of this and come out on top. He looks a class edge horse in this field.
3:00pm Ascot – Noctae Volatus
In the Swinley Handicap Chase, I like Nocate Volatus for Tom Lacey.
He’s now 11 but has been in very good form, with two solid wins at Warwick and Sandown. He’s only gone up
seven pounds for those victories and still looks well treated enough to be competitive.
With a few unreliable types in the line-up, he rates a solid each-way play and should be right in the
mix.
4:10pm Ascot – Operation Manna
In the three-mile handicap hurdle, I’ll take a chance on Operation Manna for Tom Lacey. He put together a hat-trick a couple of seasons back and was rated much higher at his peak.
He returns to hurdles after two runs over fences, gets soft ground which he enjoys, and Cameron Iles takes off a useful five pounds.
That brings him into this on a workable mark and he looks like a lively each-way option at a price.
