Next Wolves Manager Odds: Gary O'Neil Return on the Cards?
Will Jackson
Gary O'Neil has emerged as the early favourite for a surprise return to Molineux after Vitor Pereira was sacked by Wolves over the weekend.
The Portuguese had overseen a winless start to the season, picking up just two points from their opening 10 points to become favourites with sports betting sites to be relegated from the top flight this season.
He was dismissed following the defeat to Fulham on Saturday, leading to football betting markets to name former manager O'Neil as favourite to succeed.
The Free Bets team has taken a closer look at the faces in the running for the Wolves job.

Here are the four favourites for the Wolves job.

| Rui Borges | 6/1 |
| Brendan Rodgers | 8/1 |
Gary O'Neil
It has not gone down well that O'Neil's name has shot to the top of the betting, given how it ended for him at Wolves 12 months ago.
O'Neil was dismissed last season following a similar start to the season, picking up just nine points in 16 games and on the back of four successive defeats.
His record overall at the club is okay. Sixty three matches, 20 wins and a points-per-game record of 1.13, but it's hardly a record that screams 'safety'.
He is considered a good young coach, and it is a surprise he has not found a job anywhere else since his sacking last December, and if he was appointed this time round, you would suspect there was an element of pragmatism involved with a view to next season.
Rob Edwards
Edwards did about as well as could be expected in his first crack at Premier League management, despite taking Luton back down to the Championship at the first time of asking.
The achievement of getting the Hatters promoted in the first place was a significant one, and something that counts in Edwards' favour despite his eventual dismissal from the club.
He earned plenty of praise for his demeanour and approach during that season in the top flight, and has clearly been earmarked as someone to keep an eye on, with Middlesbrough appointing him in the summer.
Not surprisingly, he has them second in the Championship and is establishing himself as one of the best managers in the country outside the top flight.
His appointment would make a lot of sense, even if it doesn't necessarily fit with what you would expect from Wolves in recent years, and it could be an appointment with one eye on next year.
Would he make the move though, with Boro potentially on the up?
Rui Borges
Rui Borges has rapidly built a reputation as a highly promising coach, and his profile aligns well with what Wolves might need right now.
He was the man chosen to lead Sporting after Ruben Amorim's successor Joao Pereira failed, after the club decided to pay Borges' release clause from Vitoria Guimaraes.
He responded by defending Sporting's league title and has a very impressive record since taking charge.
Wolves have a history of plucking sometimes obscure names from the Portuguese game - although as manager of Sporting he can hardly be considering obscure - so it would make sense cultuturally, but there may be some reluctance given how previous appointments have gone.
Brendan Rodgers
It's hardly a ringing endorsement when your former chairman describes you as "divisive, misleading, and self-serving", but that's what Dermot Desmond said about Rodgers after his quick departure from Celtic last week.
It might not be too hard to read into these words and deduce that Rodgers may have been planning his exit from Celtic Park for a while and had his eyes on another role - Wolves anyone?
Despite their relegation when he was at Leicester, he broadly did a good job last time in the Premier League and is recognised as a good coach, but it will be interesting to see how this Celtic departure has harmed his reputation.
Rodgers is used to dealing with different nationalities and delivering good football while maintaining positive results, but it could be a big ask for him to go right in at Wolves at this stage of the season and turn things around given what has just happened.
