PSG v Manchester City Match Preview
Manchester City will be keen to build upon their recent spurt of good form when they visit PSG on Wednesday evening in their penultimate Champions League group phase game.
Both of these teams were expected to be in the upper echelons of the table, however, PSG are at grave risk of being eliminated at the first hurdle as they currently sit in 25th spot.
City have also had some indifferent results this term, including an unforgettable 3-3 draw at home to Feyenoord, and they are currently clinging onto a playoff spot in 22nd position.
Pep Guardiola’s charges, however, have been showing signs they are fast approaching their best form, and that was underlined by the emphatic 6-0 victory away to Ipswich in the Premier League last weekend.
PSG may be tearing it up at the top of the Ligue 1 table, but on the European front, they have lost three of their past five Champions League outings.
This clash at the Parc des Princes has big implications for both sides, and to drum up excitement for the game I’ve located a couple of betting lines to underline my PSG v Manchester City predictions.
Man City to arrest European away blues
Given City’s pedigree in the Champions League, it seems somewhat befuddling that they don’t find themselves in the top eight.
However, scratch beneath the surface, and there have been some disappointing results, and I’m not just talking about the 2-0 reverse away to Juventus.
Squandering a 3-0 lead against Feyenoord was alarming, but this season has seen City fall off a cliff.
City have lost their last two away matches in the Champions League which is only one fewer than they had done in the previous 28 away games (W16, D9, L3).
Against Ipswich, they looked like their old selves, producing slick football and finishing off irresistible moves with crisp goals.
Although this will be the fifth meeting between PSG boss Luis Enrique and his City counterpart Guardiola, the results have been split with two wins apiece.
Not only that, but Enrique is only one of two managers to beat Guardiola by a margin of three or more goals twice (both when he was in charge of Barcelona).
Anyway, I fancy City to continue their recent resurgence against PSG, and for the purpose of value, I’m going with City to win by exactly one goal. The winning margin line pays out at odds of 7/2 with Paddy Power.
Phil Foden to make the first move
While Phil Foden has largely failed to reach the inexorably high levels placed upon City players this campaign, he now seems to have rediscovered his mojo.
Indeed, five goals in his past four outings in all competitions pays testament to that and he has got that swagger back.
Of course, the absence of Rodri has been a huge blow, and City’s win rate in the Champions League drops to 50% when the Spanish midfielder doesn’t play.
Anyway, Foden can wreak havoc at any given moment, and he will likely pose some serious questions of the PSG defence.
To wrap up my PSG v Manchester City predictions, I’m leaning into Foden to open the scoring for City like he has done in their previous two Premier League matches, and he’s trading at an inviting 8/1 to do so with bet365.
