A small loss of £0.70 for the week ending Sunday, 23 November, although we did have three out of five winning naps (one non-runner), the big disappointment being the dismal run of Il Est Francais at Ascot on Saturday.

Alan Kelly's Tips - Monday, 24 November
Kempton Park stages an excellent jumps card on Monday afternoon, the feature race being the Listed mares’ hurdle at 2:30pm.
The ground is unlikely to change from its current description of good.
12:55pm Kempton - Un Sens A La Vie
The ex Paul Nicholls inmate Old Park Star makes his debut over hurdles for new handler Nicky Henderson, the five-year-old worth noting for any market support following three places efforts in Bumpers last season. Chris Gordon’s stable continues in sparkling form and his Fortune Timmy, despite going off at odds of 8/1, ran out a comfortable winner on his first try over the smaller obstacles at Fontwell last month.
While the third and fourth horses home have recorded subsequent victories, I think this novices’ contest may concern the Olly Murphy-trained Wandering Ego and UN SENS A LA VIE from the Twiston-Davies stable, preference being for the latter.
After disappointing on his hurdling debut at Perth in September, Sean Bowen’s mount proved a different proposition at Stratford five weeks later when beating his 13 rivals by a long-looking 14 lengths. It is easy to pick holes in the value of that form however, whereas Un Sens A La Vie’s latest effort came in Grade 2 company at Cheltenham.
Sent off the 5/2 favourite for that race at Prestbury Park based on the gelding's impressive victory at Market Rasen 10 days earlier, Sam Twiston-Davies’ mount had previously won a Bumper on that course earlier in the year. Beaten just under eight lengths in 7th place at Cheltenham, the son of Muhtathir didn’t help his chances by jumping out to his right at several of his hurdles. The selection will be much happier on this right-handed track and is fancied to regain the winning thread before stepping-up in class once again.
Recommendation: Un Sens A La Vie - 6/5 with bet365
1:25pm Kempton - Jeriko Du Reponet
A cracking beginners’ chase, the five contenders all rated between 136 and 149 and headed by Nicky Henderson’ JERIKO DU REPONET, runner-up in the Pertemps Final at the Cheltenham Festival before going one better with a comfortable victory in a 23-runner Listed staying handicap at the Punchestown Festival on his most recent start.
JP McManus’s talented six-year-old returned to hurdles after blotting his copybook on his chasing debut at Sandown 12 months ago, eventually being pulled-up after looking unhappy over the bigger obstacles, almost certainly the result of getting upset in the preliminaries. Nico de Boinville’s mount is worth another try at chasing, as the son of Choeur Du Nord is still a potentially exciting prospect over fences and is sure to have been well-schooled by the Seven Barrows team.
Like Jeriko Du Reponet, Stuart Edmunds’ Dovecote runner-up on this course back in February, Miami Magic, was another who disappointed on his chasing debut when last of 3 at Uttoxeter last month. In total contrast, Lucy Wadham’s Jax Junior jumped like an old hand when second to a good horse in Lump Sum on that course three weeks ago.
Tom Cannon’s mount is expected to try and dictate matters from the front in an effort to expose any faults in his four rivals’ jumping, although the gelding is the lowest-rated of the 5 contenders. I have been looking forward to seeing Gary & Josh Moore’s Hansard going over fences, the seven-year-old’s last victory coming in Newbury’s Gerry Feilden two years ago.
Since then Hansard has been set some pretty stiff tests over the smaller obstacles, including when finishing a respectable third behind subsequent Champion Hurdle winner Golden Ace in Wincanton’s Kingwell Hurdle. For a stable in decent form, Hansard could be the one to take advantage should Jeriko Du Reponet blot his copybook once again.
Recommendation: Jeriko Du Reponet - 5/6 with bet365
2:30pm Kempton - That’ll Do Moss (Nap)
Six runners for this mares’ Listed hurdle. The seven-year-old Della Casa Lunga has a good record at Kempton but is hard to fancy following three comprehensive defeats by a combined distance of 166 lengths. Irish trainer Emmet Mullins is represented by the Walk In The Park mare Dream On Baby, although Donagh Meyler’s mount is currently on a losing run of 10, six of those defeats when occupying the runner-up spot, another distinct possibility regarding the outcome of this 2m 5f contest.
Another horse who has found one too good on her last three starts is the Fergal O’Brien-trained THAT'LL DO MOSS (Nap), beaten at odds of 1/10 in a minor contest at Ayr back in March. On either side of that head-scratching defeat came excellent efforts in Group 2 and Group 1 races at Sandown and Ayr respectively.
Jack Hogan’s mount belied her odds of 50/1 when finding only Willie Mullins’ Aurora Vega too good over in Ireland on her most recent start, the form of which is way above anything achieved by any of today’s rivals. Provided there is no repeat of her Ayr defeat, the daughter of Black Sam Bellamy should have little trouble opening her account for the season.
Recommendation: That’ll Do Moss (Nap) - 5/4 with bet365
