4.10pm Goodwood - Hermetic (Nap)
Conditions will likely be a mix of soft and good to soft at Goodwood given there was further rain forecast on Saturday although raceday is due to be dry.
Maxident enjoys soft ground and stays this 2m trip although his winning form is over shorter. He is making his seasonal debut this afternoon but has run well fresh in the past although his stable are a bit quiet at present.
HERMETIC should relish underfoot conditions – was pulled out of a race at Thirsk last month due to the fast ground – and this French import caught my eye when fourth in a York handicap at the Dante meeting last month.
It is hard to compare his French form – a winner of two of his four starts both on ground described as soft – but he won over 2m in the French provinces and Billy Loughnane is a positive booking for Ian Williams who does so well with his stayers.
He was dropped 1lb from York and is entered in the Northumberland Plate later in the month although he is likely to only make the consolation race given his current mark of eighty-one.

4.27pm Perth - Somespring Special
A high-quality Perth Gold Cup with the weights headed by the former Charlie Hall Chase winner The Real Whacker. I’m not convinced Riskintheground will get home over three miles and my two against the field are SOMESPRING SPECIAL and Walk On Quest with preference for the former.
Somespring Special was a fluent Bangor-on-Dee scorer stepped up to three miles for the first time last time and a 5lbs rise is fair for the mare who makes the long journey north from her Somerset base. The forecast good ground is ideal, and she is unexposed at the distance.
It was only a three-runner race that Walk On Quest won last time but he is finally fulfilling his early promise for Lucinda Russell. There is plenty of pace in the race and Walk On Quest will not get an uncontested lead but he, too, has improved for the step up to 3m of late and he looks sure to run a big race from the foot of the weights.
