Charlie McCann's Horse Racing Tips Sunday, 19 July - Curragh, Newton Abbot & Redcar
Charlie heads to Redcar on Sunday for his best bet

It's a busy day of racing action in the UK and Ireland, and Charlie McCann is here with his exclusive free horse racing tips - only at FreeBets.
4:25pm Curragh - Al Riffa
Joseph O'Brien's globetrotting AL RIFFA won the Curragh Cup twelve months ago and went on to land the Irish St Leger later in the year, and he has bounced back in his last couple of starts after a dreadful run in Meydan back in the spring.
I thought Joseph O'Brien's six-year-old entire was a cert out in the Middle East, but he didn't pick up a leg on the night. He has since been beaten less than a length in a 2m Longchamp Group 1 and ran as well as could be expected in the Ascot Gold Cup, given he was held up out the back from a modest draw. In the circumstances, he ran well given the 1-2 Scandinavia and Trawlerman were always better positioned than the selection who had stamina to prove beyond two miles.
The return to 1m6f should suit, and the hope is that there is plenty of pace in the race with Joseph having three in the race and his father saddling Illinois, who landed a gamble when winning the near 2m5f+ Queen Alexandra Stakes at the Royal meeting last month.
It will be interesting to see if Ryan Moore tries to make all on Illinois who comes out of stall two with the selection inside him in stall one.
Recommendation: Al Riffa - 11/8 with Skybet
3:40pm Newton Abbot - Chief Black Robe
It's A Breeze will likely be all the rage after scoring over course and distance last weekend when he readily picked up the front-running The Gypsy Davey, who reopposes today. The winner carries a 7lbs penalty for that fluent success, but leading conditional Paddy Hanlon takes off a valuable 5lbs this afternoon.
It is a long time since CHIEF BLACK ROBE was in the winners' enclosure – July 2023 – but this dual course and distance winner has bits of form which suggest that he could run a big race from a mark of just ninety. He finished second over course and distance from a mark of 120 in his pomp, goes well for Tom Broughton – has been in the plate for all four career successes - and the hope is that he is rejuvenated after a ten-week break.
The ew selection will relish the ground, and connections have stumbled on a very winnable race. Yes, it is possible that he has gone at the game, but I am prepared to give him one last chance.
Recommendation: Chief Black Robe - 3/1 with bet365
4:08pm Redcar - Financer (Nap)
The hope is that Be Patient will head the market for the Class 4 10f handicap at Redcar, as I am sweet on the chance of FINANCER (Nap), who returns to the distance of his three career wins, including over course and distance.
Like Chief Black Robe, the selection has not won for a long time – September 2024 –, but that was from an 8lbs higher mark, and I like the booking of talented 7lbs apprentice Jake Dickson.
The selection has been knocking on the door of late, finishing third over a mile in the Carlisle Bell in first-time blinkers, before finishing runner-up over an additional furlong back at the Cumbrian track earlier in the month. He was only beaten half a length last time when he gave every impression he would appreciate another furlong.
Recommendation: Financer (Nap) - 7/2 with bet365
