3:20pm Curragh - City Of Memphis
Jancis escapes a penalty for landing the 1m1f Group 2 Dahlia Stakes at Newmarket on Guineas weekend, and the drying ground is a plus for Willie McCreey's mare. That was a career best for the five-year-old, but I feel Paddy Twomey will saddle the winner, and the drying ground edges me to the four-year-old CITY OF MEMPHIS over stablemate One Look.
One Look would prefer a bit of cut and was campaigned over further in the second half of last season, although she did finish an excellent second to the top-class Porta Fortuna in the corresponding race last year. On this ground, I would be surprised if she had the necessary speed to cope with her stablemate, who did us a favour when winning a Leopardstown Group 3 over seven furlongs last time.
City Of Memphis has only raced once over a mile when beaten over 4l in the Irish 1000 Guineas on this card last year in what was just her second career start. I hope to see One Look bag a Group 1 this term, but I am convinced that if that is the case, it will be over 10f with plenty of cut in the ground. She looks sure to run well, but these are not her optimum conditions.

3:28pm Uttoxeter - Flying Fortune (Each-Way) (Nap)
There are no prices available at the time of writing, but Service Minimum looks sure to go off a warm order in the valuable 2m4f handicap hurdle, having won her last two at Bangor (when part of #Marmogate) and Warwick.
The handicapper has had his say, and the mare has been raised 21lbs for those facile successes, and I will back FLYING FORTUNE (Each-Way) (Nap) as an alternative for Mickey and James Bowen.
I recommended two in the 3m hurdle on Swinton Gold Cup Day at Haydock earlier in the month, the 12/1 winner Matty's Getaway and Flying Fortune, and, for much of the race, the eye was taken by the mare until she palpably failed to get home over the trip. She has dropped 2lbs for that effort, which is more than fair, and she jumped well, which was not the case at Perth on her penultimate start.
A previous winner of the Grade 2 Persian War at Chepstow, the mare wore cheekpieces for the first time at Haydock, and the aid is back on this afternoon. The Skelton mare will be a tough nut to crack, but as long as the ground is genuinely good - Uttoxeter often put too much water on the track – then I will be disappointed if she does not run a big race.
Recommendation: Flying Fortune (Each-Way) (Nap) - 13/2 with bet365 (3 places)
3:03pm Kelso - Wise Eagle
Only four go to post for the valuable 2m handicap hurdle, but there is plenty of pace with The Kemble Brewery and Impero likely to ensure a decent test, and that should suit WISE EAGLE, who finished third over course and distance in the Morebattle when last seen over timber from a 1lb lower mark.
The nine-year-old has only had seven starts over timber and has not won a race since December 2024, but he is rated ninety-five on the level and 127 over hurdles, which suggests he is fairly treated this afternoon. He is not the most fluent of jumpers – low sun would help – but he should have the race run to suit and receives 10 lbs or more from his three rivals.
Recommendation: Wise Eagle - 10/3 with bet365
