Charlie McCann’s Horse Racing Tips For Tuesday, 9 June - Salisbury, Southwell & Carlisle
Charlie heads to Salisbury on Tuesday for his best bet

It's a busy day of racing action in the UK and Ireland, and Charlie McCann is here with his exclusive free horse racing tips - only at FreeBets.com.
4:53pm Salisbury - Rossa Raheen (Nap)
The classic generation have won the 10f fillies' handicap eight times in the last nine renewals, and the Gallic import Affection won four of ten starts in her native France and it will be interesting to see what the market makes of her chance on her first start for David Pipe. She may be going hurdling sooner rather than later, but a market move would be worth noting. She runs in the colours of the trainer but will be looking for a buyer for the filly.
Top-weight Regal Charm has only had five starts and ran her best race yet when second on soft ground at Newbury (33/1) back in October although she was beaten over three lengths. Henry Candy's four-year-old looks best of the older horses.
Morvern looked ready for a step up in trip when second over Wolverhampton's extended mile, but the vote goes to ROSSA RAHEEN despite the fact that she finished nearly 7l behind Morvern at Haydock on good to soft ground over a mile back in the autumn. Ollie Sangster's filly is 11lbs better off today and ran a terrific race at Newbury on her seasonal debut.
Drawn wide in stall thirteen, the filly lost ground at the start by tracking over to the back of the field where she stayed before making steady progress in the home straight. She was only beaten a neck having briefly had her run checked and a 1lb rise is fair given she travelled like the best filly in the race.
David Probert takes over in the saddle for the first time for Sangster who has his string in good form with three winners – from twenty runners – in the last fortnight. Billy Loughnane is Sangster's go-to jockey, and he rides the exposed seven-year-old Typical Woman for Ian Williams. Loughnane's minimum weight is 8st 8lbs and the selection carries that weight this afternoon whilst Probert can do the weight comfortably.
Conditions were described as soft – good to soft in places – on Monday morning and the selection's ability to handle the ground must be taken on trust although the sire – Palace Pier – acted well on soft ground and the filly is out of an unraced half-sister to a Melbourne Cup winner.
Recommendation: Rossa Raheen (Nap) - 2/1 with bet365
3:30pm Southwell - Cher Monsieur
Southwell had had over 21mm of rain this month up to Monday morning with more rain forecast yet the BHA website suggests they "will water as necessary to maintain or improve on GOOD ground." The capitals are the BHA's, but what do they mean to improve on good ground? By improve do they mean slower?
There is so little actual summer jumping these days with clerks producing slow over-watered ground as the norm while Chepstow and Cheltenham in October will be run on fast ground for winter horses. Perth described their ground as good on Sunday yet the 3m chase was run in a time over thirty seconds above standard. That is obviously no better than good to soft.
Manowest failed to stay 3m2f+ at Perth over hurdles last time and makes his chase debut over a more suitable trip of 2m4f. A winning pointer Olly Murphy's eight-year-old looks sure to have his supporters but I liked the way CHER MONSIEUR jumped the last two when challenged at Plumpton last time and he is taken to defy a 3lbs rise for that success.
Neil Mulholland's six-year-old ran well in all three starts in points in Ireland and his Plumpton success came on the back of a good second at Uttoxeter over 3m on chase debut. Connections fit the gelding with cheekpieces for the first time and the hope is that the aid sharpens up his jumping. He made a couple of novicey mistakes at Plumpton – he was actually too brave but has scope – but is entitled with experience over the larger obstacles.
Recommendation: Cher Monsieur - Evens with bet365
8:42pm Carlisle - Ephron (Each-Way)
EPHRON (Each-Way) may not have quite got home over 10f+ at Haydock last time, but he ran well having been posted wide and the winner – Harry Charlton's Bnaider – was considered well ahead of his mark.
The selection had previously scored over a mile on fast ground at Redcar from a 7lbs lower mark although Gemma Tutty has booked talented 7lbs apprentice Jake Dickson for the ride this evening. The selection must prove his ability to handle the forecast soft/good to soft ground but his trainer he won at Redcar despite underfoot conditions.
Clocker and Hatamoto are two three-year-olds who will be winning races this term, but I thought Ephron ran better than his finishing position suggests at Haydock and I like the booking of Dickson.
Recommendation: Ephron (Each-Way) - 6/1 with bet365 (3 places)

Horse racing has long been Charlie's passion - ironic, really, as he'll never pass the vet again, as sports injuries have come back to bite - with a specialism in handicap chases over jumps and 1m+ handicaps on the level.
