The Everest 2025, Betting Tips & Latest Odds

The Everest is the world's richest turf race, offering a prize purse of AU$20 million, and in 2025, it once again brings together an elite field of 12 sprinters at Royal Randwick.

Run over 1200m, this Group 1 contest will determine the sprint champion of the season, and a capacity crowd and global audience are expected as Hong Kong hero Ka Ying Rising headlines the event.

The presence of this international superstar has made the race appear one-sided on paper, but his Aussie rivals are primed to defend home turf in what will be a fiercely contested Everest.

Here at Free Bets, we've got the latest Everest 2025 odds, highlight the key contenders, and provide two free Everest tips.

The Everest 2025 – Key Contenders

The Everest returns with global intrigue, headlined by Hong Kong's superstar Ka Ying Rising (Barrier 7), the odds-on favourite. Trained by David Hayes, this gelding boasts 14 wins from 16 starts - including four Group 1 races - and has won 13 straight. His last start saw him dominate HK's top sprinters. Although this is his Australian debut, his explosive turn-of-foot and professionalism make him the one to beat.

The top local threat is Joliestar (Barrier 5). A three-time Group 1 winner for Chris Waller, she returned in style, winning The Shorts and looks primed to improve on last year's unlucky Everest seventh. With James McDonald on board and a sweet draw, she's right in the mix.

War Machine (Barrier 4) brings strong momentum for Lindsay Park, having won four on the bounce, including a recent 2L romp in the Gilgai Stakes. A versatile 1400m horse dropping back to 1200m, he's a genuine knockout chance if things fall his way.

Winner of the TJ Smith Stakes, Briasa (Barrier 10), arrives in form after a gritty Premiere Stakes win. He's a proven Group 1 horse but needs a clever ride from a tricky gate.

Another Waller mare, Lady Shenandoah (Barrier 6), is a Randwick 1200m specialist. A forgiving run at Moonee Valley last time sets her up for a bounce-back, especially if the track is dry.

Angel Capital (Barrier 3) is an exciting up-and-comer. After smashing a Listed field first-up, he ran a luckless fourth in the Rupert Clarke. He's talented but faces a steep class rise.

Jimmysstar (Barrier 11) has a flashing late finish and ran second to Briasa last time. A wide draw and backmarker style mean he'll need luck, but he's a strong top-four option.

The only three-year-old in the race (and a filly), Tempted (Barrier 1), carries just 51kg for Godolphin. She won the Run to the Rose and was brave in the Golden Rose. No filly has won The Everest, but with the rail draw and Craig Williams up, she's an interesting outsider.

Others include Overpass, a bold front-runner resuming fresh, Mazu, who was 3rd in the 2022 Everest, and Magic Time, a capable mare but with a tough barrier.

2025 Everest Tips

There's no doubt Ka Ying Rising is the horse to beat, but at short odds and racing outside Hong Kong for the first time, there's value in looking elsewhere.

Our top win pick is Joliestar, the classy Chris Waller-trained mare who returned with a bang in The Shorts.

She's got Group 1 wins at Randwick, draws well, and will love the strong tempo.

With James McDonald on board and a perfect setup, she can strike if the favourite is even slightly off.

From those horses at a juicy price, consider Magic Time (Each-Way) - she's a long shot on paper, but don't rule her out.

The Grahame Begg-trained mare has strong form this prep and flew home for third in the Manikato Stakes last time out.

She's back at her preferred Randwick, and if the race turns into a speed burn (which it might), she could be the one flashing home late.

With the big odds on offer, a top-three finish would still be a nice payday.
