YouTuber and serial prankster Jake Paul has goaded professional boxer – and Love Island star* – Tommy Fury into a fight in Saudi Arabia, settling an argument that has rumbled on for close to two years.

Is Jake Paul a genuine threat as a boxer? Is Tommy Fury any good as a boxer? Will Tommy Fury change his surname if he loses? We are closer than ever to finding out as all eyes are focused on Diriyah this weekend.

It’s the biggest test for either man so far in their differing careers and eight rounds will decide who owns the bragging rights under the Saudi sun...

Despite growing his boxing record to 6-0, there is still a massive omission on Jake Paul’s resume: an actual boxer.

The YouTuber has beaten former basketball players, MMA stars and fellow influencers to state his claim as a fighter, but this weekend’s test against Tommy Fury will be by far his biggest.

Paul is athletic and has committed himself to the sport for a few years now which is in need of a certain level of respect.

It is intriguing to see how far he can go in the sport as a fighter. As boxing fans we have been groomed into believing that a fighter has to have grown up the hard way, in poverty, and found the sport as a means of survival.

But what if a multi-millionaire, with unlimited resources and access to facilities dedicates himself to the craft? This fight against Tommy Fury is the closest we will have come to finding the truth about Paul’s potential.

What he has in athleticism and fitness he misses in skill. Paul’s jab has been relatively ineffective so far in his career and he’ll have to be a lot cuter when setting up his attacks against someone with the lived experience of Fury.

He does possess punch power – as his four KOs have underlined – but none have come against a guy as young and well conditioned as Fury.

The 23-year-old hasn’t had as much time in the ring as his family would have liked. Speaking exclusively to Free bets, Father John Fury told us: ‘Tommy should be out at least four times a year, but greedy promoters, they don’t want to pay him what he’s worth’.

Since turning pro in 2018, Tommy Fury has beaten eight opponents, with an impressive knockout ratio of 50%.

Dad and Trainer, John Fury told us, “if Tommy got regular boxing bouts, regular fights, Tommy’s world class, Tommy can be a world champion”.

On Jake’s chances against Tommy, John added:

“He (Tommy) knows he can beat the likes of Jake Paul; he knows he’s a level above him and the people we’ve been dealing with, any one of those sparring partners can play with Jake Paul. Jake Paul’s is what they call a learner, he’s got L plates on in the boxing game, hasn’t he? He’s going to be a while before he takes some L plates off.

“I don’t even give him a slight chance. There’s no way he can beat Tommy, what I’ve been seeing in the gym, you’ll be lucky to even land the punch on Tommy, but the first time Tommy connects to the right hand it’s over, it’s over.”
