Scotland are set to take part in their first World Cup in 28 years and Haiti haven’t been at a World Cup in 52 years. Scotland qualified for the World Cup after topping a group containing Denmark, who were favourites, and Greece who had just beaten them in the Nations League.

It was a special night at Hampden that sealed the qualification and that started with a Scott McTominay overhead kick before ending a Kenny McLean strike from his own half to seal a historic 3-1 victory for Steve Clarke’s side.

Haiti topped their group which contained World Cup regulars Costa Rica, who finished third, Honduras and Nicaragua and their qualification also came down to the final match day.

They took on Nicaragua knowing they had to win and hope that Honduras didn’t, everything fell into place and they won 2-0 whilst Costa Rica held Honduras to a 0-0 draw.

This meant they topped the group by two points despite losing 3-0 to Honduras on matchday four.

We've got three betting tips ahead of Saturday's late-night clash in Massachusetts, plus the top World Cup free bets currently available.

Haiti vs Scotland Tips

Here are our top three World Cup betting tips and the best free bets ahead of this game.

Tip 1: Scott McTominay to score or assist

Scott McTominay has been Scotland’s talisman for a while now, he scored ten and got three assists for Napoli this season and scored two and got an assist in six World Cup Qualifiers.

His ability to arrive in the box and get goals is something that Scotland really lacked from a midfielder/ten and has been crucial in qualifying for three of the last four major tournaments.

His goal against Denmark set Scotland on a positive path but his second goal against Belarus proved to be just as important in the end given that they scored what ended up being a consolation goal in injury time.

He also scored an excellent goal from the edge of the box against Bolivia, he’ll be heavily involved in everything Scotland do and I don’t think the odds on him getting a goal contribution should be as high as this.

Tip 2: Lawrence Shankland to score

After coming back from injury, Lawrence Shankland ended the season on brilliant form scoring five and getting an assist in the last seven games.

This form carried on into the pre-tournament friendlies where he scored two at Hampden against Curacao and then got a goal and an assist against Bolivia last Saturday.

He’s Scotland's most in-form striker so it seems obvious that he’ll start the opening game and he’s Scotland’s best chance at scoring, in my opinion.

His movement, positioning and natural finishing ability could be massive for Scotland in this one, as they will not only look to win but also get a few goals in the process.

Tip 3: Lawrence Shankland to score, Scott McTominay to score or assist & over 1.5 Scotland goals

Shankland's goalscoring credentials are obvious, while Scott McTominay continues to be Scotland's most influential attacking midfielder.

The Napoli star scored seven times during qualifying and contributed 17 goals and assists for his club last season, making a goal involvement an attractive selection.

Scotland come into this one off the back of scoring eight goals in the last two games whilst Haiti hammered New Zealand before losing to Peru in their last warm up fixture.

Having watched their last game, they look pretty good going forward but incredibly weak defensively and there’s major questions, for me, over goalkeeper Johny Placide.

Even if Haiti score, I think Scotland will score more with the firepower up top and the goals coming from midfield.

Steve Clarke will have his team right up for this one and there will be plenty of Scottish fans in the crowd, I fancy them heavily here.
